Yesterday, father just told me he's going to visit his siblings in Washington. He will be out for a week, or maybe longer. He bought two tickets: one for him, one for me. The flight is today. He asked me to go with him. I told him I'll stay.
This morning, he woke me up, asked me one more time if I wanted to go with him. It's been years since I last saw my uncles, he said. They wanted to give me presents too, he added. You know what I did? I just shrugged, turned my back to him, and put the covers over myself. I think he stood there for a minute before finally leaving my room. I didn't go back to sleep. I couldn't. I listened to his footsteps as he walked towards the door. I listened to a car arriving, and taking him to the airport.
When he was finally gone, I cried.
I feel like an asshole. This is the nicest he's been for years, and I completely blew it off.
