There was nothing in the world that caused him greater pleasure. Even though he sat within one of the worse places in history, he was always entertained. And while he was cut off from what was going on in the outside world, he already knew everything. He was five steps ahead of everyone. Not like they knew that fact though.
“Carl Michael,” A roundabout security guard stopped in front of his cell, “You have a visitor today.”
Carl tossed the red dice he had in his hand. He caught it as it fell and stood up slowly. “Of course I do.”
The menacing smile he had on his face didn’t affect the security guard, who had grown used to seeing it on nearly every new prisoner. The security guard gestured in a way that said ‘hurry up so I can about my own business’ Carl was securely handcuffed before he could barely step out of the cell. He scowled at the pointless matter.
Going down the rows of cells that held more than one type of crime offender, they finally turned down a more peaceful hall. In the dead quiet hall, Carl’s ears rung. He was used to the loud yelling or bickering within the cell room. The quietness had grown foreign to him. In what had been such a dark place, the fluorescent lights were piercing to his exposed eyes.
Finally the pair stopped at a small room where only a table sat with two chairs. One chair was obviously meant for the prisoner. It stood out, steel and hard with binding metal to keep anyone in place. The security man roughly pushed Carl into the seat, letting the handcuffs stay on and clipping his wrist in place. He then in turn locked Carl’s legs down in place.
The old security man moved out of Carl’s sight, gesturing at the door in a ready sign. Seconds later, the door opened. The security man left out as a new figure took his place.
Even Carl hadn’t predicted that the person who walked in was exactly that person. His eyes widened slightly in surprise when they settled down in the seat. Carl was expecting James or even Jordan, not him. Shivers went down his spine as dark memories began to surface. Gruesome pictures flashed within his mind’s vision and he flinched.
Clenching his hands that were trembling, he spoke with more assurance than he actually had. “Well I never thought I’d be seeing you again.”
The young boy leaned back in his seat, his eyes flashing with amusement and mischief. “You shouldn’t be like that. You just didn’t expect me to come so soon. But I couldn’t give up the opportunity to see that you’ve been caught. And by a girl at that. What do you make of yourself?”
Carl’s jaw clenched. He was angry at himself for being frightened of the boy that was barely an adult. But he was dangerous boy, a boy that could cause any grown man to piss his pants. And the past the boy had with Carl only helped to prove that fact. It was only two years ago. Though now that the boy was finally showing his face, it might as well have been yesterday.
“What do you want from me? I don’t think you should be worrying about me. Not when every living police officer should know your face.”
The boy titled his head and his lips pressed together tightly. “Don’t try to advise me on what I do. If I can make it through a jailhouse, past thousands of officers, don’t you think I can handle myself just fine? But we’re not talking about me, we’re talking about you. So let’s talk.”
“You never wanted to talk before.” Carl said, his hands tightening into white struck fist. His blood had raced up to his ears. He was sure that the boy could see the weakness, the fear, all over him. The boy always saw it. He never missed that emotion on anyone and Carl doubted that it was a fact that’d be constant forever.
“Yeah, but I’ve grown up as you can see.” The boy spoke, the devilish smile never leaving his face. “So tell me, who was this girl that outsmarted you?”
“Katherine Smith.” Carl sighed out, “Also known as Kylie.”
“I’m sure you’ve planned so way of revenge on this young girl.” The boy said with a casual tone, even taking the time to look Carl over.
Since getting in jail a month ago, a dark beard was growing along his jawline and chin. His hair had grown longer and now it fell in a messy pile on top of his head. The daily workout and exercise had kept him buff and fit. However, his age was truly starting to show as a few wrinkles were spotted underneath his eyes. The usual aura of confidence that surrounded him like a cloak had disappeared the second the demon boy had walked in.
“Yeah, I’ve got some workers out there getting the job done now.” Carl said, a bit of pride coming into his voice as he was able to plan something the boy would be proud of. It was better than the alternative, disappointing the young man would be hell for everyone.
The boy nodded and tapped his chin in a thoughtful matter. “Yes, yes, I thought you would have. So entertain me. What happened to get you into this dump?”
Carl wasted no time in giving up how Kylie and Evan had come into his hands. But then how he was outsmarted by their determination and love. Being caught and going to jail. The whole story was coming out, even how he had planned beforehand a backup plan with James and the way he kidnapped Kylie’s mother for his own personal desire. Once he was done, his tongue was dry and his brow was furrowed as he waited for the boy’s reaction.
“That’s really a story. Very entertaining indeed.” The boy continued lightly, his arms crossed over his chest. “Now that my personal curiosity has been explained, you need to know why I am here.”
Carl nodded, he had been wondering the whole time. What did the boy want from him now? What could he possibly be after that Carl could provide him with? Of course he would do anything, the consequences of not following the boy’s command was extreme. And there was only one escape from that; death.
“I have some unfinished business here in Chicago, as you may already remember.” He stopped talking as cold smile touched his expression, pleased when he saw the old man shiver. He continued. “I want your people to cause panic in this city. So much panic that when I get my job down its easy and conscious. No one notices what I’m doing.”
“Sure,” Carl said rapidly, ready to agree with anything. There was no problem about that part, James and Jordan should already be commencing with the plan.
The boy nodded, “I’m glad we understand each other.”
“Me too,” Carl replied hastily, breathless as his pulse raced inside. His heart pounded against his bones, causing his chest to ache and his breath to clench up.
Again the boy nodded, “And in return I’d cause some chaos for you. I’ve heard and seen this girl around the city. Maybe it’s time I can actually be a teenager, if you know what I mean.”
“I do. And it’s fine by me.” Carl wiggled his fingers in absent gesture. “She doesn’t mean anything to me. She’s mentally broken anyways.”
“Even if it wasn’t fine by you I would have done whatever I feel like.” The boy said with a serious and dangerous expression. Then he stood, a cold smile appearing back on his face. “I know exactly what type of girl she is. It makes everything so much more entertaining.”
Only when the door had shut and the click rung in the quiet room did Carl slump back in his seat. He knew it, everyone knew, he was dead man. If that boy was back in town, the whole city was in for one hell of a ride. Carl was just glad he wouldn’t be a part of it. Being in jail might not be as bad as he thought.
However a ticking sound made him pause in his thoughts. Where the boy had sat there was a small circular device. Red lights blinked, counting down officially from fifteen seconds.
Holy shit.
