There was no doubt in his mind now and there was no way she could do anything to stop him. It wasn’t as if she wanted to stop him. The plan was brilliant and if anything it belonged to her. It did come from her head. But now a worm of doubt played in her mind, she was human of course and there was no way she could go around killing people just because.

Running a hand through what used to be light brown hair, she stared out the windows of the abandoned building. In the shadows he sat observing her, causing light shivers to go up and down her spine. Though they had been together for a good mouth now, it still made her feel weird being around someone who would pull the trigger on her without a second thought.

Turning so she was facing him, she spoke flatly, “Do you really think he’ll come here?”

He smirked, his bright white teeth flashing menacingly. “Of course he will. This is the place where his treasure died and that P.S message should be enough. He’s smart enough to know what it means.”

“He must have a death wish then.” The girl sighed at the realization of what it meant. There was no way she was going to get herself out of the plan. She did sign up for this. What did she think was going to happen? That she’d be able to disappear and not hear from anyone? Unfortunately things didn’t work like that.

The young man chuckled lightly at her remark. “Yeah, he’s the type to throw himself in danger when his love ones are in trouble.”

The girl’s delicate face became creased with a frown. “When I met him he seemed hardcore and emotionless. Definitely not the type to do all this for anyone he knows.”

“Evan’s nothing but a softy on the inside. After all the things he’s been through, being emotionless and tough, it’s a habitat and hard to change.” The boy spoke as if he knew from experience. Confirming her thoughts, he continued forward with a gesture at himself. “I mean, take me as an example.”

The girl shook her head. “You’re the reverse. You act nice and sweet, but you’re actually a cold-hearted douche bag that’ll shoot you in the face with a cheerful smile.”

He laughed again, as if they were having a casual conversation. It sent another wave of ominous shivers throughout her whole body.

“That’s harsh.”

In the darkness of the room, there was nothing but a peaceful quiet that was nothing but eerie in the girl’s mind. Outside there was not a speck of sound expect for the occasional car zooming past or a hurdle of kids scurrying past. But they both knew what sound they were listening for, a closing door and the pound of announcing feet or maybe even a knock.

“Why didn’t you write Kylie’s name down on that list?” The girl blurted out suddenly. It had been nagging her for a long time. The only reason she had joined him was for revenge. The bitter and yet addictive taste of it right on the tip of tongue, driving her into the dark corners of her mind. So much that she craved for Kylie’s suffering.

This time she only received silence and as she thought about it some more she came to a frightening conclusion.

“You’re in love with her.”

He snorted, but the sound wasn’t one of casual it was one of warning. “No, I don’t.”

“Then you’re attracted to her.”

This time he respond took longer than necessary and she hurriedly filled in the gap with a nervous tone. “I mean, even though you’re all stone and bricks, it doesn’t mean you don’t have hormones. Everyone does. It’s nothing with being attracted to her.”

A pause and then he was laughing. It echoed through the empty hallways of the building to return back into the small space they were in. “I suppose you can say that.”

After another quiet second, she asked again more lightly, “So why exactly isn’t her name on the list?”

“The best way to make Kylie suffer is to take away Evan. That’s all you need to do. He’s her thread to life, her everything, and the only way she stays on the surface.”

Now it was beginning to make sense, how she hadn’t seen it earlier was beyond her. “I never knew you were smart, James.”

Staring at him through what used to be light brown eyes, she saw him tilt his head. “I’ve always been smart. People don’t last long enough to see that quality though. And I think you should be careful, Jordan.”

Goose bumps caused an icy feeling to run into the depths of her body. She shuddered in a way that was conscious. “Why should I be careful?”

Before he could respond they heard the screeching of a car and the slamming of the door.

“Let chaos begin.”
