I was a childhood genius. I was the girl who sat in the front row and spent her time memorizing the periodic table instead of swinging on the monkey bars. I was the girl in the eighth grade english as an eleven year old. I was the freakishly smart one. Not that I minded, really. The constant bickering every time the teacher used my work as the class model was nothing that ever really concerned me; however, high school was a different story. The Bronx School of Science! What an accomplishment right? I was the one who got the score and was perfectly cut out for the school, or so I thought.
I went from reading "Amy Harris" at the top of the class rank to not even bothering to check where I landed after each semester. Now, here I was, two months into senior year, sitting in the back of advanced chemistry. Don't get me wrong, I was still smart. Even freakishly smart. But, relative to the kids who were bound to cure cancer one day walking these halls, I might as well be dumb as a rock.
However, what I lacked in academics, (if you'd consider a solid B and A transcript in all honors at one of New York's Finest "lacking"), I made up in extracurriculars. Varsity swimming, quiz bowl, science club, theatre, glee club, French Honors Society, etc.. you name it, I was a part of it. But here, at the Bronx School of Science, it didn't matter unless your report card was plastered with A's. I didn't get shoved into lockers or anything, I mean, I went to school with a bunch of nerds, but I definitely didn't sit with the brightest of the bright at lunch either. In any normal high school, the popular kids were the captain of the poms team. Here, I sat among her as an outcast.
So, as you'd imagine, the back row of advanced chemistry class was a comforting place. I never worried about the teacher calling on me and the threat of constant whispers if I made a small misstep in my logic, I never worried about someone snitching if they saw me doodling around my color-coded notes, I could just sit in peace and focus.
Today, that changed.
A/N Sorry this is so short! I'm absolutely terrible at intro chapters and this was my best shot at one. I promise it will get a little juicier!!! And btw my name's Amy and I most definitely do not go to the Bronx School of Science so sorry if this is inaccurate. I wrote a somewhat popular fan fic on quotev a couple years ago and have definitely grown as a writer and really don't want to do my summer homework so I went back to my roots and wrote this instead. Enjoy!!
