"Okay class, we have a new student!" announced my chemistry teacher in his raspy but clear voice. "His name is Eric and he's transferring from Bronx High, please welcome him warmly!" he announced as the student walked in almost perfectly on cue. He sported a cute sweater-over-flannel combo paired with black jeans and looked relatively normal. Cute locks of curly brown hair, a pair of glasses that framed his face perfectly, and a short but seemingly fit stature. "Eric, you can go sit down over there in the back, next to Amy" said my teacher, and I must admit, my cheeks got a little rosy knowing this cute boy would be sitting next to me. Just what I needed! A distraction next to my perfect seat.
"Hi, I'm Eric" the boy said in a clean teenage boy voice.
"Amy", I said back with a smile. "We're reviewing today, so you're in luck. You may want to take out your notebook if you don't want to get yelled at on the first day", I whispered. He nodded and nervously looked for a notebook in his somewhat empty backpack.
"Odd", I thought to myself. "You'd think he'd be a little more prepared on the first day". I laughed as he frantically searched for a pencil in a frenzy, so I tapped his shoulder and gave him an extra I had along with a few highlighters. "You can copy what I have done so far if you'd like. it might help", I added and he gave me a relieved smile without saying anything.
He looked extremely familiar for some reason. I knew I had seen his thin lips and wavy brown hair somewhere but just assumed I'd seen him at the store or something and thought he was cute.
I sat mindlessly through the rest of chemistry, glancing at the cute new boy every once and a while. When the bell had rung for lunch, I looked over and realized he had no notes down. At all. Zip. Nada. Zero.
"You know, if you wanna survive here, you may wanna write at least one word down" I said as we both put our notebooks away. "If you want, you can sit with me at lunch, I'm not with the terribly popular kids or anything, so it's pretty laid-back" I added.
"Well you see, I'm a little nervous" he started.
"Yeah, it's your first day at the Bronx School of Science, who wouldn't be?" I said.
"Yeah, well, no, I don't really think you'd understand" he said scratching the back of his neck nervously.
I chuckled. "Then make me understand".
"Well, um... I'm Spider-Man" he said. I haltered in my step a little as we were walking to lunch and I think he noticed. "No, no! I'm not like, a real-life superhero, I'm just Spider-Man. I mean! I'm playing Spider-Man. And I'm really not supposed to tell anyone but-"
"You may want to work on introducing yourself a little better, man. You're a scatter brain" I said laughing at the odd string of thoughts Eric was spewing at me. It's a good thing he's cute.
"Okay, let me restart, but you can't tell anyone! My name's Tom, Tom Holland".
No way. Tom Holland. One of my new favorite actors from his work in The Impossible, but like, all grown up. That's why he looked so familiar!
"And I'm playing Spider-Man, and I kinda joked around about going to an American high school because, I'm, well British" he said switching accents. "And they took me seriously and now I'm here. Back at high school even though I graduated last year".
I was star struck. I got to go to school with Tom Holland, who was going to be playing Spider-Man?! It was unreal.
"Well first off Tom, er, um, Eric, let me just say I'm a huge fan. I should've recognized you but I guess the glasses just threw me off. Also, don't worry because your secret it safe with me", I said comforting him. We had finally reached the lunch table and I sat down with Tom.
"Hi guys" I said to my friends. "Meet Eric".
