Its been a few days since I've gotten to the prison, 3 to be exact. I keep to myself. I've stayed in this stupid cell since I've been here. Due to the hunger, I'm basically forced to leave the safety of my cell for an hour or so. The berries I collected aren't in my bag, thanks to Rick. I made my way around the prison, my vision a bit blurry from the hunger, a head ache erupting like a volcano. I stumbled my way into the place where the people here eat. I saw a girl with blonde hair pulled back into a messy ponytail holding a baby in her arms.
"Is she yours?" I asked coming to sit next to her. She smiled brightly at me before shaking her head.
"No, this is Judith. Daryl likes to call her 'Little Ass Kicker.' Its Carl's little sister and Rick's daughter. I'm Beth by the way." I smiled at her, breaking the ice.
"I'm Rose. Where's the mom?" I said, ignoring the tugging of pain in my stomach.
"Didn't make it." Beth said dropping her smile at one point, but brightly picking it up again. She seems like a strong, cheery girl.
"I'm so sorry to hear that... Hey, can I have something to eat? Just like an apple or something." I said minding not to bother her.
"Oh yeah. Here hold Judith for a second." I nervously accepted her into my arms, seeing I wasn't very good with children. Surprisingly she didn't cry but nuzzle into me. My lips stretched out into a smile. I rocked her into my arms, until Beth came back with a green apple. I happily handed Judith over to her and took the apple, taking a large bite of it.
"Thanks Beth." I grinned before taking another bite and walking out of the prison. The pain in my stomach slowly subsided as I finished the apple. I threw it over a fence. My eyes darted around the prison, and I saw Carl stabbing some walkers through the fence. Deciding to make myself useful, I grabbed a sharp stick beside the fence and started helping him out. I still felt embarrassed from my panic attack.
"Hey Rose." He said stabbing another walker through the head.
"Hi Carl." I said shyly. I moved closer to him to continue a conversation.
"Finally come out of your cell, huh?" he asked chuckling.
"I decided to earn my keep, meet some people." I said shrugging stabbing another walker. He put down his stick and grabbed my shoulder. I dropped my stick in shock before flinching a bit.
Pretending he didn't notice, he asked me quietly, "Are you okay?" referencing my panic attack.
"I will be." I gave him a small smile. He hugged me close to him.
"If you ever need to talk or are having a panic attack, you can talk to me you know." He said squeezing me for a second then releasing me. I let go of him and smiled.
"Thank you." I said smiling.
"Want to go meet the rest of the group?" Carl said smiling. I nodded. He grabbed my hand leading me to an old man hobbling around the plants.
"Hershel, this is Rose. Rose, this is Hershel." I nodded to him and gave him a smile.
"Hi Hershel." I said shyly, partly hiding behind Carl. He made me feel safe for some reason. I'd never felt that before...
After a while, I was introduced with everyone and I helped out with a bit of everything. I started to feel in place, we all had our jobs. The sun was starting to set. Carl and me were sitting out by the gate, talking like regular kids, like before this apocalypse started.
"So before the world went to shit, what did you like to do?" He asked.
"I use to sing, Horse back ride, stay on the computer, listen to music, watch Doctor Who, all that stuff." I said smiling remembering old times.
