"What do you mean you couldn't care less?!" My best friend of 5 years screeches down the phone. I have to pull my phone away from my ear so I don't go deaf from how high pitched her voice is getting.
"Gee Mel, calm down will you? You're making it sound like I killed someone and told you I didn't care!" I battle stretching out across my bed, the soft fabric of the sheets brushing against my bare legs.
"You did kill someone. You're killing my heart!" She cries again followed by a loud thud on her end of the line. I can tell that she just threw her pillow or maybe even her desk chair across her room.
"Stop sulking. I gave you my explanation, there is no way in hell I could have a long term relationship with someone living here. In a holiday resort. With my protective as heck family." I mutter, staring up at the ceiling of my room.
"I know Rob, I'm sorry it's just you deserve the best I just want you to be happy. I'm sorry." She says in a hushed tone. My face drops, not that I was smiling in the first place, and I sit up to look out my window.
"No Melanie I'm sorry I shouldn't have snapped, it just-" my eyes land on both my parents stood by the entrance to the  resort. We don't live in the resort but our house is right next door so I can see people entering and leaving straight from my bedroom window. I stare at my parents for a second carefully watching the person, or should I say people, they're talking to. Usually they don't meet the people coming to stay in the resort, we have a welcoming committee for that, but this time they were talking to a family. A man, a woman, little girl and a boy who looks about my age. My sentence got stuck in my throat as I watch the group enter the resort. No way would this family just like any of the others, I mean why on earth would my parents be meeting them? Showing them around? Getting to know them?
The voice on the other end of the phone snapped me from my thoughts.
"Robyn! What are you doing? Are you okay!? Robyn!" Melanie's voice shook through my phone basically smacking me in the face. I shook my head from whatever daze I was in and press the phone back to my ear.
"I'm sorry Mel, my parents are talking to a family- I just got distracted. What was I saying?"
"You were apologising but it's ok. You sound like you need to go, call me later yeah?" She asks, I shake my head at her stupid question.
"Of course, when have I never not called you since I've been here?" I scoff making my way to my door. She just sighs and tuts me.
"Ya never know, maybe your lying, maybe it's a boy." She giggles.
"Nah why would I lie to you about that? You're the one who wants me to get a boyfriend." I laugh, she just lets out a content sigh before we said our goodbyes. I swiftly make my way down the stairs and out of my house. Nobody's home after all, my brother, Mike is probably off playing pool boy in a bad attempt to pick up 'hot chicks'.
"Hot chicks my ass." I grumble shutting and locking the door. My brother is a player in all of his, what's the word? Glory? Nah more like obscurity. No girls actually pay attention to him, which makes me feel horrible for him. He's not even bad looking and no I'm not just saying that because I'm related to him. No way could he be classed as a player, no matter how hard he tries to be.
Soon enough I arrive at the gates of the resort and shoot Rhys, the guy who works at the gate, as big a smile that I couldn't muster.
"Hey Robyn, what's up?" He grins leaning over the booth that he's sat in.
"Hey Rhy, I just came down because I saw my parents with a family from my window, Can you tell me anything? I don't particularly feel like going on an adventure around the resort to find them." Me being my lazy self shot him a winning smile as he looked at me peculiarly.
"Yeah, sure. From what I heard that's the new family who are going to co-own the resort with you guys." Rhys shrugged off. My jaw almost hit the ground and I stared at him in disbelief. Oh hell no.
"What do you mean, 'co-own'?" I grill him being sure to make quotations marks with my hands.
"That's what I heard, go check for yourself." He choked on a laugh gesturing towards the reception area where my parents had suddenly reappeared in. As soon as he said that my thanks escaped me and I stormed towards the building only a few metres away.
"Ah Rob! Hey-" Dad starts. But I cut him off before he could finish.
"Mother, Father. A word please." I ask them, pulling both of them by the hand away from the front desk.
"Of course, what's up baby?" My mum asks when I stop dragging them. She cups my cheek gently as I try to regain my breath.
"Mum, Dad. What's this talk about co-owners?" I whine looking up at the pair with big puppy dog eyes.
"Oh sweetie, I thought you knew." My mother sighs glancing over at my dad who might as well have the word 'guilty' in red paint across his forehead. He laughs awkwardly, bring my attention towards him.
"It's ok hon don't worry, they're lovely." He offers me his winning smile, one much like the one I gave Rhys earlier. "Just think about how much easier it'll be with all of us working together, they have a son and a daughter, like us, the boy is around your age and you'll just adore the girl!" He adds on trying his best to win me over. I look over at my mum who's still glaring holes into the side of my dad's head and a laugh bubbles up inside my chest.
"Don't worry, I'm not mad. Just a little upset that you didn't tell me this. Does Mike know?" I quiz leaning carefully against the wall we're stood next to.
"Well, yes but he over heard the first phone call, the nosey Parker." Mum laughs pushing her glasses further up the bridge of her nose.
"Do you want to meet them?" Dad asks carefully placing his hand onto my shoulder.
"Of course! After all they're going to be living here as well, right?"
"Spot on Hon." Dad chuckles. Well, they can't be that bad if my parents like them.
