John:
"Guys, I'm telling you I picked up the wrong notebook! This isn't mine!" I panic holding it up and pointing to the cramped untidy scrawl that took up over half of the book. "I'm John Laurens! I avoid writing because of my... well you know," I feel like sinking to the floor and crying. Oh my god, he's going to see the drawings in it of him and he's going to think that I'm a weirdo.
Herc smirks. "What's so funny, horse fucker?" I snap at him, sinking into Laf's bed. He catches Laf's eye. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
Lafayette grins. "We, uh how you say? Ah, We steal it back!"
My head jerks up. "That," I say, pointing at him, "is the best idea I've heard all day!"
Soon after, we start asking people if they know where Burr and Alex's room is and finally, after half an hour of talking to strangers (and about five minutes of being hit with a shoe and fending off a feminist) we find their dorm; number 1776.
I knock and wait for an answer. Burr opens the door. "What's up?" He greets, glancing back into his room at a man lying on a bed. "Is Alex here?" I ask, looking into his room myself. "Alexander? No he left a while ago, stormed out and took his bag with him. Is there a specific reason you're calling at-" he checks his watch- "6:54 pm?"
"Non," Lafayette answers, "Bueños noches! "
As we walk away, Burr calls: "I thought you were French!"
"I am!" He cackles happily. We burst out laughing at Burrs confused expression.
We search for two hours, getting no where. Nobody has even heard of Alexander Hamilton so we're blindly looking for someone that Herc and Laf have never even seen. Great.
We look for another hour, Hercules and Lafayette getting more annoyed by the minute.
"It's been three hours John, can we go back to our dorm now?" Herc whines, and I nod in defeat. "Sure you guys should go ahead. I'll meet you there, I'm just going to check in here," I nod towards the library.
They walk off and I push open the door, hoping that he's in there.
And, thank God, he is.
His back faces me while he's on the other side of the room, typing on one of the computers. I sneak up behind him, spotting his bag and- is the book in there?
Yes! The corner of it pokes out. Alex is still typing, but very slowly, like he doesn't really know how to use a computer. He types with one finger and seems to have trouble changing between Word and Google. I shrug and get down to all fours, crawling slowly towards the bag. Shit, if I don't hurry up, someone is going to get suspicious. If I just reach my fingers out carefully-
Alex:
I lean down to take my notebook out of my bag. Using this computer is really confusing. Back home, I remember that there's only one computer the town owned and it was ancient. I never got to use it; Ma wouldn't pay for it- no. Don't think of then, Alexander, think of now and the future, they're only two things you can change.
My fingers touch the opening of the bag but instead of feeling the worn leather of my notebook, I feel something soft and fleshy.
"OH MY GOD!" I scream, retracting my hand as fast as I can. I whip around to face the theif/intruder but instead find myself flushing as I face the cute boy from the coffee shop, his adorable brown eyes staring up at me in both innocence and guilt. "What the hell do you think you are doing? Do you usually stalk random people you meet in coffee shops?" I hiss, glaring at him.
"I'm not stalking you exactly," he fidgets with his hands looking nervous. "It's just that you accidentally put my notebook in your bag and I thought I could steal it back before you see the doodles of you I did in it."
I smirk. Before he can do anything I've grabbed the book and flipped it over to the page he was talking about. "Cute," I comment, "But my eyes are deeper in thought than that."
"Haha, you're hilarious. Can I have my notebook back now?"
I give him back his notebook but before he could give me back my own, he quickly grabs my hand and turns it over. "My number," he says as he writes. "Text me."
I nod dumbly as we part ways to go to our dorms. I take my extremely crappy phone out of my pocket and key in the number. I had to sell my mother's necklace and that barely sold for anything. I sigh aside I knock at my door. Burr let's me in and luckily, Asshole has left.
