John:"Truth or dare?" Asks Herc, smirking at my uncomfortable expression. There is good reason to be in discomfort though.
Everyone sits in a circle, smiling at each other. There are the three girls, me and Alex, Herc and Lafayette, Theodosia (who is apparently a friend of Peggy) and Burr, who was invited along by Theodosia.
The last few dares were a bit weird. Peggy was dared to lick Burrs face, Lafayette had to stuff as many mini croissants into his mouth as possible (this turned out to be eleven) and Alex had stripped down to his underwear.
I stare down to the floor, avoiding looking at Alex and trying not to blush as I said "Truth." Herc laughs, forcing me to look up at him because he has grabbed my face. "If you had to kiss anyone in this room, who would it be? No lying, we'll know."
Thank god the door is knocked on by the pizza delivery guy.
As everyone scrambles to the door, I notice Alex surreptitiously pull on his skinny jeans and hoodie. Luckily the dares are forgotten as they begin to munch on pizza, Herc chucking Alex a box of curly fries in disgust.
I quickly grab a couple of slices and begin to chew on some pepperoni pizza.
Alex moves up and sits next to me. "These kids are insane, man!" He whispers, pointing a fry at me. I chuckle slightly. "I wouldn't be friends with them if they weren't."
"They're pretty cool, but you're way cooler!" He laughs, leaning his head against my shoulder. Heart fluttering, I quickly stuff more pizza in my mouth so that I didn't seem awkward. He looks up at me smiling.
"Hey, John?" He whispers, his cheeks tinted a bit pink.
"Mhmm?" I respond, my stomach a tight bundle of nerves.
"Who was you going to kiss?"
I blink.
"Who did you think I was going to kiss?" I slide around the question, hoping Alex won't notice. Luckily he doesn't.
"Theodosia, since you were flirting with her before."
I let out a breathy laugh. "I don't know how to break this to you Alex, but Theo would be the last person I'd want to kiss. Or any of the three Schuyler sisters if any of them are your next guess. Or any girl for that matter." I scratch the back of my neck, looking away. Alex sits up.
"So you're gay?" He asks slowly, eyes wide.
"Is it a problem?" I ask quickly and sharply. He shakes his head no rapidly.
"Not at all. But can I confide in you, John?"
I nod. "Of course. What is it?"
"I'm bisexual, you don't have to worry about me being a homophobe."
Alex swiftly gets up and walks over to Burr, probably to argue with him but I really don't care.
All I can focus on is the heat in my cheeks and the butterflies in my stomach.
Alex:
Oh my god, did I actually admit my sexuality to John? I haven't actually told anyone else and when he said he was gay, I felt more confident. I knew he wasn't going to judge me.
Five minutes later, after everyone had finished their food, Angelica stands up smirking.
"Alright, is anyone up for seven minutes in heaven?" She slurs slightly, dropping her drink on the fluffy white carpet. "Whoops, that cost me six hundred dollars!" She giggles, and I roll my eyes. Of course, brag about money in front of a poor man. It doesn't make me feel uncomfortable or anything. I laugh anyway.
I'm not entirely sure what that is but I cheer along with every one else, taking a swig from my first bottle of Sam Adams. I'm not a big drinker but I can tell John isn't either, considering he hasn't even touched any alcohol let alone drunk it.
She picks up the now empty bottle and declares: "Everyone get in a circle! Alright? Good. Which, who ever this, uh bottle lands on have to go in the cupboard with another person for seven minutes. I'm gonna spin this twice! Ready?"
We all nod and she spins the bottle, slowing down towards the end until it finally lands on John. My heart drops. I wonder who-
The bottle then lands in front of me. Oh shit.
I look at John and to my relief, I'm not the only one blushing. I stand, shaking and I pull John up. He smiles softly. We make our way through the whistles coming from everybody and we get inside the cupboard. Angelica follows and shuts the door behind us. "Seven minutes!" She calls in a sing song voice.
I turn back to John who is incredibly close to me, literally only an inch inbetween us.
"I've wanted to this since I first met you," he murmurs as he leans down, and then-
BOOM!
It feels like something has exploded in my stomach. My eyes close and my hands immediately make their way up to his hair. Oh my god, it's so soft.
What the heck am I doing? I don't usually hang out with people like this!
I don't care. I don't care that this is my first kiss, or that my claustrophobia is building up or that everyone outside is waiting. There's only me and John.
His hands slide under my hoodie as he pushes me against the wall. He somehow deepens the kiss, and then it's over too soon, both of us gasping for air. He rests his forehead against my own as his eyes flutter open to meet mine.
"That was... amazing," I whisper as he smiles. "Thank you."
"What for?" He murmurs.
"For being my first kiss."
He smirks. "Thank you for being amazing."
"Are we still friends?" I ask worriedly, looking away.
"Of course! But if you wanted to be more..."
"No," I shake my head. "Not yet at least. But I'll let you know. Laurens, I like you a lot."
He let's out a laugh before kissing my forehead softly.
"Times up!" Sings Eliza, opening the door.
"Where's Angie?" Asks John.
"She passed out. Come on! Burr and Theodosia's next!"
I grin at John before we both leave the cupboard, finally breathing in cold, fresh air.
I'd rather be kissing John again.
