The Little Girl

Just then pain started to kick in, I was sore all over and I couldn't feel my arm, I felt like I had just been beaten up by a bully at school. Kiley came in and checked Mike who was fast asleep beside me then she came over to me and gasped.

"Your covered in blood and you've been bitten!" she exclaimed. She got a some cloth and wiped me down then she passed me my backpack and said

"Get changed and I'll clean your clothes"

She wrapped my bitten arm then left.

I was left with Mike, now awake

"I need to get changed so could you please go" I said in a half asleep and crocky voice

"Get changed I won't look" Then he turned around to prove it.

The air was cool and damp as I started to get changed into some warm, clean chothes. When I was done Mike and me  went to get breakfast. I gave my bloodstained t-shirt and pants to Kiley to wash at a nearby stream Summer found.

For breakfast we had Grazey meat because there was so much. Summer was sitting at the table with June and Timothy, they looked so much better than before.

"Hi guys" I said

"Hello" They replied

After breakfast we desided to go farther into the rainforest so when Kiley came back we packed up and began the walk. It had started to rain 2 hours after we left and everyone was exhausted so we stopped for a rest.

I went out to collect some small snacks from a berry bush nearby, I picked up a container from my bag and trudged through the mud. Soon the mud was so deep I was sinking with every step so I turned around and tried to walk back but I was stuck.

The mud was to thick to just walk out I had to hold something a pull myself out, but there was nothing close enough to grab hold of. Soon the mud was at my waist and I was sinking fast.

I shut my eyes and thought 'so this is how it ends'. (A bit dramatic I know) Suddenly a hard, cracked hand caught mine, I opened my eyes and was relived when I saw Mike in his green camo uniform.

"I got you" He said, his face all screwed up in concentration.

I used my free arm, my bitten arm, to dig around me but it kept squotching back into place. Mike stood up and stop pulling then did a huge tug, I came out in a big dirty mess flying through the air 'This is embarrassing'  I thought. I land with a big THUMP on Mike. I got up and sat beside him.

"Thanks" I said

"No probs" He gave me a hug and helped me stand up. I picked up my basket from a Lopple bush, its thorns were not pleasant scraping aganst my dry mud skin. We started our way back to the rest of the team because I had had enough of today but it was only lunch so there was more to come.

When we were near the camp I heard a yell "Where the others?!". It sounded like a girls voice about 7 years of age. Mike must heard it to 'cause he stopped and listened too "Tell me or there going more then a broken arm and a black eye on this Woman!". By then Mike and me started to run, the leaves that hit our face slowed us so we had to hear more "Noo please, I don't know where they are, please don't shoot" I could hear Summer now saying through a huge sob.

Soon I could see Timothy, June and Kiley kneeling on the ground with something sore on all them. they had no weapons and their backpacks were gone. I went closer and hid behind a bush, now I could see the whole picture.

6-8 year old was standing behind Summer with an arrow ready to shoot her shoulder. "Where's the older girl and that man?" She yelled again "They are the only ones I want to see" This time it was a soft tone.

The bush behind me rustled so I turned around and saw Mike going around to a tree behind the little girl. Suddenly Mike had jumped out and was running in, the girl was nice and cool she wasn't worried. She turned around to face Mike and then dropped her bow and looked scared. Mike stopped running and stared at her. Everyone was staring at her.

Mike walked slowly to the little girl, she looked at him and sob a bit. Then when Mike was within arms length she pulled Mike over her shoulder and winded him. While he was struggling for breath I was star struck, never had I seen a 6/7 year old take on a fully grown man and win!
