Draco

Draco wakes up with the memory of another nightmare from his time in that bloody awful house and the torture he had to endure, but yet again, Hermione is right there for him. Everytime she comforts him, he feels his heart pound faster, the comfort she gives him is far greater than anything he has ever felt. It’s like her presence creates a bubble around them, blocking out all the bad in the world.

He can finally wake up without screaming about how he knows it is a trick, ready to die for failing somehow.

But for some reason, she isn't here this morning. Draco starts to panic especially when he hears the front door open.

“Griffin!” he hears Hermione call, noticing that the door is cracked open from her hasty exit from their room. He slowly makes his way over to the door to look at what is happening. However, his blood boils at the sight, seeing her hugging the bloke named Griffin as if she hasn’t seen him in years. He immediately recognizes the bloke as the one who tried to put him in with the other death eaters. Draco glares at the bloke, even if Griffin can’t see him, especially when Hermione pulls back and she pecks his lips.

What is he doing with his girl? His girl? Draco shakes the thought from his head, confused as to why he called her that. Sure, she saved him, but that doesn’t mean she is going to be with him every second for the rest of her life. The mere thought makes him glare at the bloke harder as he thinks about him stealing her time, taking her from him. What is wrong with him? He shouldn’t think about Hermione like this.

“‘Mione, have you seen the Daily Prophet?” Griffin questions, suddenly becoming serious.

“No, why?” Griffin looks at her warily and although Draco can’t see her face, he can hear her concern. “What’s going on?”

“Maybe you should just read it for yourself,” he murmurs, pulling out a copy from his suit, holding it out to her greedy hands that immediately snatch it.

“Oh my gosh, we did it!” She cries gleefully.

“No, you did it. Without your breakthrough in the case, we would have never found any of them, much less one of the head operators. Yaxley is never getting out of there alive.” Draco’s heart gives a leap of surprise and joy. He can never hurt Draco again, which lifts his spirits. He’s finally safe.

“What do you mean by one of the heads?” Hermione questions, her voice strained. “Griffin, tell me this instant. What did the Ministry find out?”

“Hermione, I don’t know if you should be under this stress on your leave-”

“Damn it, Griffin, I am the head of this case. I get that your are filling in, but I assume that I will be needed within the next couple of days. If there is something you aren’t telling me, I will not hesitate to take you off the next raids,” she threatens. Draco can see that she is breathing heavily in anger after her outburst. Why does this case matter to her so much? Draco can’t help but wonder.

“Fine, I know I don’t get boyfriend privileges, geez woman,” he jokes, but hesitates before saying anything else. “Well, the thing is, Yaxley was not the one in command. We have reason to believe that somebody else has put all this together and the man you have here, he is needed in their plan. Why else would they keep him alive for two years?”

Draco’s heart stops for a beat, fear starting to grip his heart. That means they are going to come for him, try to turn him into their little puppet yet again. No, Hermione will keep you safe he thought. However, the very thought of her putting her life in danger’s way for him makes him feel sick.
