He slammed the door, and left me standing in front of it.

"C-Chris?" I called.

Stupid!, I thought.

Why would I call him when I know he wouldn't answer?

"I'll just leave this tray here." I put down the tray with bacon and eggs that was supposed to be his breakfast but he slammed the door on me instead.

I was about to leave but I heard the door opened, "Melissa Marie."

I took a deep breath and turned around, "Yes?"

"Can we talk?" He's calm. I've never seen him calm.

"O-Okay..."

"Why?" He began, "What 'why' ?"

"Why do you still love me even though you know I'll just hurt you?"

I look down. I can't look at him.

"Because I love you."

"But I don't."

My heart skipped a beat.

Ouch.

"Let me be with Eve. Please... I want a divorce."

"Chris... you know I can't." I looked at him, "I'm sorry."

"Mel.." He never called me Mel. Never since that day.

"Please... If you really want me to be happy, let me go." I looked into his eyes and I see pain.

"Chris.. I really can't." My tears began to fall.

"I hate you. I fucking hate you."

and he slammed the door again. It is so fucking painful to hear that phrase.

I went to the guest room and checked my phone. I saw a message from my father.

Dad

Mel, aren't you and Chris going to attend your mother's birthday? C'mon. She's waiting for you.

-

Shit. I forgot it's my mom's birthday! I immediately replied.

To: Dad

We're on our way.

-

I can't go alone and I need to be with Chris or else daddy will be mad. He'll ask me a bunch of questions.

I put on light make up to match with my simple above the knee black dress and stilettos.

I went upstairs to tell Chris that we need to attend my mom's birthday party.

I was about to knock when he opened the door.

He's wearing a casual outfit. Seems like he's going out with Eve.

"Let's go. Your father texted me."

We went to his car and drive to my mom's house. The whole ride was quiet and fun fact, I've never been in his car. Thank God for my mom's birthday.

Then he broke the silence, "We're going to act like a couple."

"But we are a couple." I said, "For you."

Ouch.

"Anyways, you act natural. Never tell your parents between Eve and I or else..." I nod.

We reached my mom's home and parked outside. Before we enter the house, Chris suddenly hold my hand. I looked at him but he's not looking at me.

I felt butterflies in my stomach.
and it feels so good.
