(Tom's parents are human in this book.)

Tord's POV

After what happened in the circus, I took Tom back to the base as fast as I could. I rushed him to the infirmary. He was still asleep. One of the nurses took him away from me, I insisted that they let me in but they didn't let me.

I sat out side his room. It's been three days, he still hasn't woken up. I was lost in my head but I was interrupted by Paul and Patrick.

"Red Leader, you should get some sleep. We can keep an eye on him." Patrick suggested.

"No, I want to be here when he wakes up." I said back.

"Sir, have you considered the fact that he might not wake up?" Paul asked.

I flinched. 'He has to wake up, but what if he doesn't? It'll be all my falt, I wasn't there.' I thought. I let tears fall, too tired to hold them back.

The door opined and a docter walked out. I whipped my tears and rushed over to him.

"Why did it take there days to get results? Is he okay?!" I asked.

"He should wake up soon, but I have some bad news....." the docter said.

I grabbed his coat's collar and lifted him of the ground. He had nothing but pure fear in his eyes.

"What is it?" I asked him with a cold tone that could kill.

"Due to his physical state, his sickness got worse," he choked out, "He doesn't have long to live."

I dropped him and ran out of the room. I rushed to the flight hanger and ordered the pilots to find the remaining herbs. I walked back to my room and sat on the bed.

I buried my face in my hands. 'I can't lose him, not again. I can't live without him any more.' I said in my head.

My phone rang. I picked it up.

"Sir?" Paul's voice came through.

"Yeah?"

"We have some news about Thomas."

"Speak."

"He's awake."

I ran out of my room and booked it for the infermery. Paul was in front of the door still on the phone. Once he saw me, he opened the door. I walked in and saw Tom looking out the window. He had a bandaid on his cheak, but that was it. He looked at me.

"Tord, I'm going to die soon." He said.

"I'm not going to let that happen." I walked over to him and grabed his hand.

"This has happened before, it'll seem like I'm getting better for a while, then I'll fade...."

"What do you mean it happed before?"

"My mom had black eye syndrome..."

I froze, that's why he never talks about her.

"Tom, I'm so sorry." I pulled him into a hug.

He hugged back and cried. He buried his head in the crook of my neck. After a while he calmed down.

"Tord, promise me somthing." He said, voice clear.

"Anything."

"If I die, don't do anything stupid, okay?"

I hesitated, "Okay."

"Promise me."

"I can't. I can't live without you, and I don't want to."

Tom sighed, pulled me down and kissed my forehead, "Why did I know you would say that."

Paul entered the room, "Red Leader, we have work to do."

I nodded and looked back to Tom. He looked okay, but I didn't want to leave him alone.

Suddenly Tom passed out in my arms. I started to freak out, but Paul put his hand on my shoulder.

"He's going to be okay, already squad 1, 3, and 5 already found there herbs. Besides, sleep will help, he's also in the most protected base in the world with the best medical care."

I smiled. I tucked Tom in and left to do some work. I had the nagging feeling that something's going to go wrong.
