The weekend past by quickly. The only real thing of note was getting the papers for my new identity and adoption. Daisy Mason is now an actual person. Great, how am I supposed to erase the information when I leave? Megan fussed over me all weekend. I didn't mind it really. I had been pretty independent even before this mess, and my parents respected that, so this was nice.
Today was my first day of school. I was going to be in third grade. I told Megan I skipped a grade since I had to take some sort of test once I got there, but there was no way I would fail it. I was in tenth grade before this! Ah, well, it's sure to be interesting at least.
"Try to make some friends today, okay?" Megan asked. Ooh, I did not want to make friends. My intelligence is going to throw a lot of people off. I'm kind of expecting to get bullied. In fact, I'm hoping for it. You see, I don't like kids too much. When I was my normal age, I would be nice to them, but I found most very annoying and selfish. It's not their fault really. They haven't experienced life much yet. They're not so bad once they learn about life and the world.
"Daisy? Did you hear what I said?" Megan asked concerned.
"Um...yeah. I'll try, but I'm not too great at making friends," I said. It's true. I only made the friends I had through great effort, an effort I did not feel the need to use now.
"So after school, you'll walk to the bookstore, you can do your homework, and then we'll go home. If you get lost, just ask for help. People around here are very nice. Sound good?"
I nodded. I knew the way, but even if I did get lost, there was no way in hell I would ask for help.
"Here we are! Do you want me to walk you to the office?" she asked. I shook my head. I know how kids think when they see an adult helping them especially at the age I was. I would be perceived as weak and therefore a target. Truthfully, I really did want her to come with me. I'm not the best talking to adults. I'll just have to get it over with.
"Alright. Have a good day then!" Megan said before leaving me at the front door. I took a deep breath before going inside. I saw a sign saying 'main office' with an arrow pointing to my right. I went to the door it was pointing to and went inside. The woman sitting at the desk smiled at me.
"Hi. Can I help you?" she asked. Here we go.
"My name is Daisy Mason. I'm new here," I said.
"Welcome to Oscar Elementary! Your mom called about taking a placement test, so if you could follow me, I'll give you it."
I was going to correct her about Megan being my mom, but I let it slide. I followed her into a small room with ten desks in it. Along the wall was a cabinet which the woman went to and pulled out a small packet of papers. I sat down at a desk, and she placed it in front of me.
"You'll have an hour to finish this. If you get done before then, just come get me. You can start," she said. I took a pencil out of my bag before looking at the first page. I placed my hand in front of my mouth to cover the smile that formed. The first question was 18-5. This is going to be funny to do. The test was one hundred questions. I was done in a flash. The test went up to fifth grade level questions. Yeah, I'm excited to see their reaction to this. I quickly doubled check before looking at the timer. I still had 30 minutes...which is going to make this even funnier. I composed myself before grabbing the packet and going out to the front desk. Okay, I have to act innocent.
"Um, ma'am? I've finished," I said in a small voice. She turned and looked at me with wide eyes.
"Are you sure? And my name Ms. Hazel, sweetie," she said. Okay, she's really nice.
"Yes, I'm sure."
"Okay. You can go sit down. I'll look over this and get you a roster once I'm done."
