"Heyo! Wake up sleepy head! You can't sleep away your problems." Shouted Shelby's older brother, Jonah trying to wake her up.
"But I can try." She mumbled sleepily as she pulled the covers back up over her head.
"Come on, Shelby. There's so much that life has to offer. Now lets go." He said as he pulled the covers off of her.
"Ugh, I don't wanna go to school." She complained as she rolled off her bed and on to the ground where her blanket was currently resting. She rolled back up in her blanket covered her face with it and stayed on the floor.
"Okay, fine I'll leave." Said Jonah. She heard the sound of foot steps and she took her head out of the blanket.
"Finally." Said Shelby as she stood up and was about to lay back down on her bed until...
"Got you!" Yelled her older brother as he lifted her off the ground and threw her over his shoulder.
"Hey! What are you doing?! Put me down!" Demanded Shelby. "No!" He Argued as he began spinning around.
"Hey!" She yelled as she began to laugh. "Put me down!" She laughed even louder as her brother continued and laughed as well.
"Will you get ready for school?" He asked. "No!" She answered. "Okay then. This was your choice." He said then began to spin faster.
"Ahh! Okay, okay! I'll get ready for school!" She laughed and surrendered. "That's what I thought." He said as he set her down."I win." He said as he crossed his arms and stuck his nose up in pride.
"Yeah, yeah. Now get out so I can change." She pouted. "Alright. But make it quick you don't wanna be late." He smiled as he left and closed the door behind him.
Shelby put on a pair of skinny blue jeans and a loose black T-shirt which was actually her brothers. She thought his clothes were cozy and most of the time he was okay with her wearing them.
She brushed her long light brown wavy hair and decided to put a bow in it. It was the bow her mother had given her before she past away. She remembers it like it was yesterday.
~Flashback~
"Mom please!" Cried Shelby from beside her mother.
"Please! This can't be happening! You can't die!" Shelby was kneeling beside her mother who was currently lying on the ground.
A burglar had broke in to their house and made quite a bit of noise while doing so. Shelby's mom ran down stairs to see what was the racket and he shot her right in her chest and then ran like a coward. "Mom" Shelby cried.
Her father and brother ran down stairs as fast as possible but stopped in their tracks at the sight of Candice (the mom) lying on the floor bleeding out.
Luckily their little sister was still up stairs sleeping. She was a deep sleeper, and that's a good thing. She was so young, she didn't need to see this.
"Shelby..." He mom had whispered "I love you sweety. And I need you to stay strong for your dad...okay?" Her mom had asked her.
"O-okay" Her voice cracked as she answered her her mother.
Her father ran over to her and Candice and he said "Sweetheart, it's okay. I'm here, I'm here..." He said as he cradled his wife in his arms.
Jonah was silently tearing up behind them. He couldn't stand seeing this. 'How could anyone do this? How could they-' He was pulled from his thoughts when his mother whispered his name.
He faced her as she whispered to him "Take care of your sisters for me." She smiled softly. Silent tears rolled down his face. That was just like his mother, To worry about others even when she's the one hurt. "I love you all. Goodbye." She said as her eyes slowly closed.
