Rose's POV

I wake up to the sound of the front door slamming shut and heavy footsteps echoing throughout the house.

"Shit, my head!" My father yells.

I sit up and rub my eyes, trying to wake up. I put my halfway finished essay on my desk and stand up, fixing my shorts. I tiptoe to my door and peek out from behind the door way. I see my dad leaning against the kitchen counter, gulping down a beer in his hand.

I know he beats me, but he's still my father. I have to take care of him. I walk out of my room and down the stairs, into his line of sight.

"Hey dad. Want me to get you some pajamas?" I ask as I fiddle with my fingers behind my back.

He looks at me and scowls, walking, no scratch that, stumbling, towards me. He grabs my hair and pulls me close to his face, his breath strong of alcohol.

"Get the hell out of here. Your face annoys me." Is all he says before he let's me go and falls to the ground, passed out.

I cry out in pain as I touch my sore head.

"Shut up! I'm trying to sleep!" My sister yells from her room.

I get up and go back to my room, closing my door behind me. I open the window and crawl out. My rooms on the second story and I have a tree branch the stretches toward my window. My own escape hatch. I climb on to it before dropping to the ground.

I walk away from the house, my arms wrapped around my body. The night air was crisp and chilly. I look up at the night sky and it's completely empty of stars, except for one. I smiled softly and start talking.

"Hey mom. How are you? I'm doing good, I guess. It's been really hard on me ever since you passed. I wish you were here. You were always there for me. But, now you're gone and. . . Life is getting harder. I wish I was with you instead. But anyways, I love you mom. Bye."

I wipe away a tear that has formed in my eye and continue walking down the sidewalk, barefooted. I enter a park that has a small pond. I walk over to it and sit down, dangling my feet in the water. I close my eyes and start to sing.

"You shout it out, but I can't hear a word you say.
I'm talking loud, not saying much.
I'm criticized, but all your bullets ricochet.
You shoot me down... But I get up."

I sing my heart out to the night sky, knowing it would listen to me when nobody else would.

Dean's POV

I'm out late because Rose kept coming to my mind.

What kind of sister does that!?

I have my hands shoved into my jacket pockets as I walk along the sidewalk. I sigh and shake my head, deciding if I should just turn around or not, when I hear this beautiful voice somewhere nearby. I stop and turn around in a circle, looking stupid. Finally, I look over near the pond and see a girl sitting down, her feet in the water.

"I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose.
Fire away, fire away.
Ricochet, you take your aim.
Fire away, fire away.
You shoot me down but I won't fall, I am titanium!
You shoot me down but I won't fall.
I am titanium." she sings.

I try to get closer to her to find out who she is, but my dumb self ends up stepping on a twig. She abruptly stops singing and turns her head around quickly, sending her hair over her shoulder. I quickly run to take cover behind a bush, stepping on another branch. She stares directly in my direction.
