Secretly Mermaid

Chapter 5

"Shit!" Fucking mouth disease,  I mentally screamed at myself trying to find a way to hide in the clear water. 

"This pond is too clear!"  I summoned Aquata to my mind, Thank God for all the Merspeak training at school. Merspeak, which is basically communication via very high frequency vibration signals that the humans can neither hear nor detect nor mimic, allow us to communicate long distance. It's out of fashion now since we all have callers or 'phones' as they are known in the human world. 

"Well what are you doing in it in the first place! Find a place to hide until sunrise!"  She screamed at me. Oops, sounds like I disrupted her beauty sleep. 

"Can I cast an invisibility spell on myself?"

"You know full well that we can only cast spells on others not ourselves why are acting like you just popped out of an egg." She was right. It was as if I've forgotten everything about being a mermaid. 

"Oh well....here he comes."

"here....who....comes...? Please tell me you somehow managed to retain your legs in water and don't have a tail right now." She pleaded. I gulped. 

The human walked over to me. 

"Excuse me?" He looked surprised as he scanned my tail, to my body, I immediately covered my breasts with my hair.  

"Have they really never seen a mermaid before? "  I fired off my annoyance, He kept glancing at my chest. 

"If they knew we existed, Ruby, We'd all be dead. Humans are greedy, selfish, and incredibly nosy creatures. Why do you think the fairies closed their realm to the humans." fully awake, she sounded like she might storm out of the ocean any minute to drag me out of my mess by my hair, no less. 

"Stop staring at me." I snapped, feeling a tad under-dressed with all the scrutiny he was giving me. 

"Who's staring at you? A human?! do the memory erasure spell!"

"I need to kiss him for that Aqua." I mentally rolled my eyes. 

The boy raised an eyebrow. "Kinda hard not to stare when you turn up at a costume party as a topless mermaid." 

"What's he saying? I don't catch human frequency!" her voice buzzed through my head like an oncoming migraine. 

"What's wrong with being a mermaid and topless?" Although we do have clothes and sea shell tops and all that, a lot of us don't really bother with them, apart from parties and weddings. 

"Speak, Ruby! and why aren't you wearing a top, are you stupid? Did you forget Human Culture in high school!?"

"Nothing, other than the fact that you're in my pool three hours after the party ended and i'm pretty sure I have never seen you before. So...explain?" he ran a hand through his dark brown hair, honestly human hair, is so boring.

"This is it i'm getting a dolphin to tune in to his human speak." she sighed.

"I don't believe he's all that evil Aqua. I mean you should look at him. He's stunning! Even more than Aspen!"

"Well....I ran away from home, this is my first time on land , so I stumbled around on legs but I realized no one else wasn't wearing any clothes so I ran until I heard the sound of water splashes, so jumped your wall and waited until your friends left and got into the pool and.....voila." I made an elaborate show of my tail as I summarized my story to the beautiful human. 

"No one ever told us humans were so hot eh Aqua? I don't believe they are evil. The tales could just have been made up by oldies to keep us from leaving our waters."  If there was a flavor to describe feelings I swear my heart felt like melting chocolate as the boy sat down by the edge of the stairs, moved his feet in the water causing ripples and looked right into my eyes.

"You....did.....not..." I quickly pushed Aquata out of my mindscape before she could finish the sentence. This was my little mermaid moment, he's now going to kiss me and it's going to be the most magical moment ever and then i'll cast that memory erasure spell and he'll forget he ever saw me and we'll live happily ever after. 

"You do know that a mermaids blood is said to be the ultimate human healing agent? and if you drain a mermaid of it's blood, you become immortal?" and my heart stopped. and when a mermaids heart stops, it's freezes to ice, never to feel warm again.
