Robyn:
Growing up, Robyn had been told that all humans were created with a soulmate. A being who was basically engraved into one's soul before they touched this earth without their knowledge; whether it be a friend or a lover. Each soul had a soul ready to latch onto theirs. At birth all citizens of our many districts were given a necklace made of precious stones which legend said if kept, It would light up if an individual ever came close to that one person destined to be their companion. She had always been told that even if she lost the necklace, it would somehow find it's way back to her especially if she was in the frequency of her soulmate. She didn't really like the idea that her so called companion was already decided for her ahead of time, like she was just programmed to instantly belong to the person she would be 'assigned' to.
Robyn could hardly believe that she ever would meet her said soulmate. It just seemed too out there and sentimental. Any sort of sentiment was something the young woman wasn't used to and probably never would be.
However in the recent years, her nation had moved on from the days of legends and proverbs, it was an era of science, proving theories and a lot more low key violence that the authorities had tried to hide from the public but they weren't stupid. The new world government lead by Senator Martin Stein had forced the huge majority of citizens to throw away their stone necklaces and become more rational thinkers. Robyn was practically born a rational thinker, never paying too much mind to the uplifting stories of the people who came before her or to the rebellious groups that supposedly littered the streets yet were never seen but still, she kept her necklace in her jacket pocket out of curiosity, imaging and doubting the existence of that chance encounter with the person whose soul would latch onto hers..
"Stop it!" A loud squeal from behind which takes her out of her deep trail of thought. Reluctantly, she turns around to find Summer Rivers flirting ferociously with Jacob Langley just as she knew she would be.
Closing her emerald green eyes tightly, the girl lets out a long sigh of exhaustion. College was a real drag, she had stupidly enrolled at a college where Gym class was just as compulsory as the major which students were taking and had since lived to regret that choice. The college argued that any of their students could be drafted for Stein's army any day and it was, therefore, in their best interests to be as fit as possible to prepare for when that day came. Robyn had always rolled her eyes at this theory; everyone knew the exact characteristics of the type of people Stein recruited into the army and that certainly didn't include anyone female or black; meaning the likelihood of her and people who looked like her being drafted were excruciatingly slim and the college knew it. They just wanted to be viewed as progressive and open to change which was exactly what would draw Stein's attention to them and potentially bring in extra funding. In other words, they were kissasses.
Looking around to the rest of her class on this train, she felt like they'd been on this journey forever. All the trips tended to be extra long when she was surrounded by people from school, she just didn't gel well with the rest of the clans around her. The rest of them clearly didn't mind the road trip as they were all in their groups chit chatting about things that made no sense and were uninteresting to Robyn.
People always saw her as an 'air-head', a daydreamer and for the most part, she couldn't argue with that. It was true, she was always in her own world thinking about things that no one else really thought about. This caused her to not talk to the people around her as much; she knew they'd never be on the same wavelength as her and explaining herself to judgemental people was frankly exhausting. However the girl was no push over. She always said exactly what she thought when provoked and if she couldn't, her facial expressions definitely spoke for her.q
