pt. 4
I grabbed my satchel full of clothes and belongings, it was bulging but my parents were focused on other things
"Here, take your sign hun" my mom passed me a sign reading "Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve!" in bold letters "now lets get with the group"
I followed them, letting the sign drop to my thigh. Embarrassed, I flipped it over so it couldn't be read
I watched my parents and their friends fan out and start to scream as people walked down the street; they looked so happy, why did my parents hate this so much? I would much rather be dancing in the street than screaming
Everybody was smiling and dancing, they didn't even notice us. My brows furrowed..... two men just kissed!
... you can do that?
My eyes latched onto a man getting out of his car. He had sandy hair and looked like he could be my dads age, all he had was a simple rainbow button; it wasn't extravagent or flashy, but it had a deep meaning.... he was just a normal guy, why did my parents hate them?
He was carrying a cardboard box full of buttons when I approached "Hello" he smiled kindly "This your first pride, son?" I nodded, numbly "would you like a pin?..... maybe take a couple for your friends?"
I bit my lip, my hands were shaking. His eyes traveled down to my sign which was now facing towards him. His brows furrowed "you know I was just like you when I was your age.... let me guess, are you here with your parents?" I nodded again, sad "Here-" he placed a button in my palm, closing my fingers securely around it "stay strong, my boy" he gave a firm pat on the back, smiled, and walked towards the festivities
My eyes watered as I watched him go
"Mali-" I spoke to her voicemail "I"m ready."
