Left Behind // Jake Virtanen

Chapter 8

The Canucks have been on the road this past week. I have only talked to Jake a few times. Between games, practice and flights he's hard to get a hold of. I have been keeping busy with homework and studying for exams.

My phone scares me as I get a text.

Raquel: Hey Kels!!! Want to do something tonight? Feel like I haven't seen you in forever. I badly need to take a break

Me: It has been forever but I have an exam tomorrow that I am not ready for :s

Raquel: I'm not taking no for an answer. Picking you up in 15 minutes!

There is no way I am going to get out of this. When Raquel wants to do something she really means it. Even if it means I'm going to fail my exam.

Exactly fifteen minutes later Raquel barges into my house calling me to get my ass downstairs and in her car. I quickly grab my purse, stuff a few study papers in it and run out the door.

"We better be doing something amazing because it's cutting into my study time" I say annoyed.

"Awe come on Kelsey. You ace all your exams anyway" Raquel gives me a pouty face. "I don't think it's possible for you to fail at anything."

"Yeah right" I laugh. "But seriously where are we going?"

"To one of your most favourite places ever!"

"Capilano Suspension Bridge!" We both say in unison.

"First we have to pick up Jasper."

When we get there we first walk across the bridge taking in the gorgeous view of the Capilano River. Once we are across I find a bench to study at while Jasper and Raquel explore some more. I could honestly stay here forever. There is something about nature that makes me feel more at peace, like nothing could ever harm me.

It's too bad I didn't have more of my study papers with me but I do at least have these ones completely memorized. About a half hour ago I did see Jasper and Raquel go back across the bridge so I head that way. I meet up with them on the Cliffwalk.

"Hey Kelsey! Did you get your studying done?" Jasper asks.

"As much as I can. Still have lots when we get home." I groan.

"How are things between you and Jake?" Jasper smirks

"Going good I think"

"You know that I meant to leave you at that concert."

"Your such a liar!" I punch him in the shoulder.

Jasper grabs his arm a pretends he's in a lot of pain. Really I barely touched him. He cranks the music and the rest of the ride home is silent.

I am lost in thought about Jake. Really how much does he actually like me. I'm just a small town girl a nobody. He really could have any girl he wants so why me. All these thought swirl through my brain like a hurricane that makes me cry.

"What's wrong sweetie" I hear my mom's soft voice. 

How long have I been home? "It's nothing" I sniff.

"With that many tears and mascara running down your face it's definitely not nothing." She wipes the tears away. "Did something happen with you and Raquel?"

"I don't want to talk about it." I start climbing the stairs.

"Kelsey!?!" Mom calls out.

"Mom please don't worry it has nothing to do with Ray or Jasper."

I dart to my room before mom can say anything else. I honestly don't remember getting out of the car. I lay on my bed and cry myself to sleep.
