Let's hang fairy lights in our rooms,
So we can say that we sleep with stars beside us.
And let's sleep outside,
At least once,
So we can fall asleep to the sound of life
And the imprinted image of the night sky
Behind our eye lids.
Let us try to live.
Let's sing our favorite songs softly under our breaths,
So, we have a song to sing.
And, when the sky is still dark
And it is just barely morning,
Let's wake up and drive.
So, we can follow the sun
As it rises over us
In brilliant shades of red and blues.
Let us see life.
And, when your back is aching:
Rest.
And, when your throat is rubbed raw with words:
Bask in silence.
Let's learn to love
Not saying anything,
And saying the most when our lips
Are closed tightly.
We will live.
In the middle of the night,
When our eyes are both staring up at two different ceilings,
Steadying our breathing,
Let the longest song sing.
Let it sing us to sleep
With the promise of the sun rising again,
And that the stars will wink at us tomorrow
With knowing looks and secretive glances.
Let us live.
Let me keep your secrets,
And cup them in the palm of my hands.
Let me look at your tears,
And watch them drip down your face
With a morbid grace
Only achieved through years
Of sheer force of will.
And, I will dance with them.
Let us live.
Let me just listen to your voice
As it soothes
The souls that listen
To your rhythmic healing.
And when the sun kisses the moon,
Let me look into your eyes,
Grip your hands firmly in mine,
And let me know that you are here.
Let us live.
