I was not afraid of the Azraels anymore, no matter how hard I convinced myself I was, I just wasn't. So I made myself believe that it was because of Khai's presence. Even if it had just been a week or two since I saw Intiyago I was not afraid of him. The way I had been at peace with myself was scary. I had less pain overwhelming me. For once it felt okay to be sitting back and worrying not about my life or anybodys. It felt okay not to grieve and it felt okay to be unreasonably fond of someone. It felt okay to be here, sat with Yolanda, Hannah and Linda, basking in the Sun. It was okay. It really was. "Gotta love that sunlight." Yolanda smiled, flashing her pearly whites.
I grinned, agreeing with her fully. The Sun was the best. Yolanda looked to my side through sunglasses. The guys were barbecuing shirtless. What was the need of shirts when almost everyone here was sexy?
"Yeah gotta love that vitamin D." Hannah said grinning at them through her glasses and she waved at Falcon.
"Yea, the Sun does that." Linda said dryly, trying to kill the mood. I brushed her dark ray of sunlight away and looked at the Sun.
"Oh, I'm not talking about the sun." Hannah grinned wider. I laughed, hurling myself forward.
"You sick girl" I shoved Hannah who sat beside me on the stretch chair. She chuckled with Yolanda and slapped hands. Linda ghosted a smile and suddenly got up and said she couldn't stand just sitting around doing nothing so she went to the boys. But no matter how hard she begged, they pushed her away. Her sons took it upon themselves to push her all the way back to us. She slumped and followed them back and begged to at least make the salad. Today they were treating us for some random reason. Eddie mentioned it was a special day...? So today they were treating us.Linda was agitated and couldn't sit down, she wanted to clean the house, she wanted to kick and she wanted to do everything but Khai told her personally that today was her resting day. Unlike us who were relieved of cleaning duties, Linda was not taking it well. In her frustration she chose to walk it off, pacing in front of us so she could remain busy.
"She doesn't want." Edna's voice came from inside the house. She walked out in a sunhat and baggy shorts. She was so adorable, carrying her tea and a book. A towel was thrown over her shoulder and she set it down to sit before us.
"Oh no she will want. She has to go." Khai hollered at his mother. Edna pat the ground beside her and looked up at the restless brunette.
"Will you sit down?"
"Nah uh mama. I'm agitated." A small quarrel started between the two women and I took my attention elsewhere.
"I'm sorry you guys have to leave." I apologized. Last night Khai came in with tickets to a Coachella thing happening far from home tomorrow so they had to leave today and guess what? Khai coincidentally didn't get us tickets but he eventually came out clean, telling everyone that him and I needed space which is not what I said at all. I had said before that it would be nice to be alone, not for everyone to leave.
"No, no, don't be. We need to breathe air outside this house. We're always here." Yolanda said, gracing my hands.
"I just feel like I caused this."
"My sister if you need space I get you. Sometimes Jacob and I run free for weeks, just to get away from mom."
"I heard that." Edna remarked, causing Yolanda to look away from me.
"I better be driving." Linda stated as she stopped pacing to return to it in a second. Khai chuckled as he carried a tray of meat toward us. He held it out for everyone to take a piece. The twins were on his tail waiting for the best pieces as soon as all the ladies were done. Everyone picked and he pointed at a specific piece for me.
"Medium rare." My cheeks flushed and took the meat in my hands. At first I was nibbling, savouring the flavours but I ended up guzzling it down to the bone. When we were all done eating and telling foolish childhood mistakes stories a bell went and a minibus parked before the house.
"Oh will you look at that, time to go." Khai acted surprised but I could tell he couldn't wait for everyone to leave.I can see right through you Khai. I know you too much.
I pouted sadly at Yolanda, she was the first one I gave a hug and she whispered in my ear, "I bet when we come back someone will be glowing." Then we both laughed.
"I'll be like the Sun." I avowed and she reeled back to give me a high five. Hannah followed, then Falcon then the rest. In the end, the best came last, Yolanda gave me another, tighter hug and kissed my cheek.
"I'll miss you." When we were done they were getting their already packed bags from the house and loading them into the minibus I noticed was being driven by Walter. I waved at him and he waved back reverently.
