Audrey, my other younger sister, decided to visit and brought something for brunch. Linda cooked in the kitchen as the boys did their homework with Audrey. I sat on the kitchen chairs, staring at their books with my mind elsewhere, focused on Roman and that first bathtub kiss we had. It felt foreign but it was so good. She had a very different taste. "Stop day dreaming about Roman." Audrey slapped the table, smiling with her eyes through her fat glasses. I snapped out of it and looked at the day through the blinds.
"It's midday." I reported as I focused my senses back on the geyser, it made a low ringing sound as she showered. It had been two weeks of duct tape and I tolerated it, I respected her boundaries.
"Ah, he is stressed about the duct tape." Linda joked, without a smile. Kyle and Eddie cracked up, hiding their faces.
"What's funny?" I asked them. I had told Yolanda about the duct tape thing and she opened her big mouth to everyone.
"Ah come on big guy, it's funny." Eddie laughed. Eddie had always been annoying, I would kill that boy any day if she wasn't Linda's son. Kyle on the other hand, respected me, treated me like I was his father. I guess I had taken up a portion of the role in a way. I was there for the boys every time and Linda would tell me about her issues, I would do anything to help her. Not that she is family or anything, she is just one of us and she is in a bad space. She needs all the support she can get.
"Linda fix your boy before I do." I warned Linda who was at the fridge.
"Kyle, back off." She simply said.
"Ah, loosen up bro. They are just joking." Audrey laughed as she pushed the glasses up her nose and she wrote answer for them.
"I can't believe you allow them to pay her to do their homework." I said to Linda who looked up and shrugged.
"It's their lives."My ears twitched as I knew she was done showering, she needed about fifteen minutes to dress up.
"Yeah, I never asked about what happened with the treaty issue." Audrey pointed out.
"Sharp Crescent wolves and Tragas will never get along again. Remember the rules were not to attack anyone on our land and they did, a pack member even."
"So it's over?" Linda asked, placing a hand on her hips.
"Yeah, I want nothing to do with Raymond." I snarled, remembering that pest and his stupidity. He really had an annoying temper.
"What about mom?" Audrey asked.
"What about me?" Mom shocked us all when she suddenly walked in. She was in comfy clothes and her hair tied up as usual.
"Uh-" Audrey uttered and looked at me.
"She was just wondering what you will do as a hobby, now that the treaty is broken." I probed. Her eyes dropped and she sighed.
"I don't know yet. I'll take care of the kids I guess. Take care of Grace." She suggested hopelessly. Grace had to be the last option.
"Yeah and Grace has been pretty enclosed in that room." Linda said with concern.
"Yeah I knocked, she won't let me in." Mom said. It was true, I hadn't seen her since. Was she embarrassed? I doubt she was, she wasn't. A part of me actually wanted to reach out for her, to understand what she was going through. Violence was not always the way, maybe understanding was.
"I'll go try." I said as I stood up.
"You?" Audrey pointed at me with the wooden spoon. I nodded at her, pursing my lips. Kyle laughed a bit from the table.
"What?" I frowned.
"You're not really the type of guy needed here." Linda said. Kyle nodded in agreement.
"That's true." Mom said.
"And I expected you to be on my side." I pointed at my mother, she shrugged and smiled.
"You can get a little too rough."
"But, ever since Roman came. I see a change." Audrey commented.
"Roman isn't changing me." I murmured. Their different eyes shared disagreeing looks. "Ah what? She isn't."
"Khai, you never let anyone object you but, Roman." Linda said, pointing out on her fingers.
"You laugh more." Mom said, Linda lifted another finger making it two.
"Your punishments aren't so severe." Eddie added, reminding me of the day I almost killed him.
"And you care more about people. Look at you, walking up to help Grace and shit." Audrey pointed out, laughing as she shut the book. I crossed my arms.
"Trust me, its not her. I just want to change." I told them. Linda and Audrey clapped their hands. Mom laughed, it was nice to hear her really laugh.
"I know that feeling son. It's a mate thing." Mom said, tapping her nose at me.
"Yeah me too." Audrey smiled. She took my mind to her mate Quintin who was a bulky guy you wouldn't expect to be with a nerd like her. She gradually changed for him. Audrey wasn't always this fun, she used to be so stuck up. The sore loser, the uptight one... yeah she sucked.
My eyes fell on Linda who just rubbed her nose uneasily as I could tell she was thinking about her mate and their separation. Blaine was out there somewhere, being a jerk of a mate. I took that as a moment to leave and find Grace and find out what her deal was. If she wouldn't tell me the easy way, I would have to do the Khai way.I climbed the stairs to the rooms. Passing my room where I could hear Roman shifting around, listening to my earphones. It was what fascinated her the most about the modern life. A phone and headsets. I set two taps on the door and her groggy voice lamented. "Go away."
"It's Khai, open." I demanded. It took a whole lot of fidgeting and shuffling for her to finally open the door. Her red hair was untamed as it laid on her shoulders. She had bags under her eyes and tire and despair decorated her body. I pushed past her and olfacted a thick stench in her room. I rushed to open the windows and curtains. "Are you trying to die?
"Maybe." She mumbled, closing the door and turning on the lights. The bright room made me feel unwelcome as it was so bright and girly. It made me want to barf. Grace wore her short pyjama shorts and a vest, her nipples visible under the vest. She looked at me blankly.
"What's wrong?" I asked her as I pinched the bridge of my nose.
"Nothing." She said curtly and dragged her feet to the side of her bed, where she sat on the edge. "I'm depressed." She admitted after a heavy sigh.
"We're over the treaty thing." I assured.
"I don't give a damn about that. I'm just depressed about my life." Grace stared into space as she spoke. "It's not nice being called all those names, especially by your own mother."
"If you act that way then we will." I told her the honest, brutal truth.
"You know," She said as she stood up. "It was so nice to feel wanted but it hurts when you think you've found the right one and he just disappoints you." And walked closer to me.
"Yeah well..." I tailed off as she was giving me a debauched look.
"I miss you." She said holding my right hand. I wiggled it away, feeling really bad about this.
"It's over between you and me." I told her.
"Because she is here." She stated. "Remember when it was just you and me?"
I groaned and looked down. "Get over it Grace, its over. I've got a mate now. I have a responsibility."
"You don't have to be with her if you genuinely don't want to be." She suggested. I looked up at her orangish brown eyes and narrowed.
"Really?" I posed incredulously.
"Blaine didn't really want Linda, you can defy the whole mate thing." She said walking closer and closer. She grabbed my hand again and caressed it.
"For you?" I asked again, incredulously.
"Ugh come on Khai, stop being stuck up. She doesn't even satisfy you. Or give you this..." Grace threw herself on me, wrapping one leg around my waist. "She doesn't even like you." She whispered as she sloppily kissed my ear. I literally shivered and pushed her away and with immediate effect and the door burst open. Her scent overwhelmed my senses as I sensed her anger brimming within me as well.Roman stood there at the door breathing heavily. Grace stood only inches from me with a pink face. "What are you doing?" Roman blurted.
"Nothing." I shrugged. Roman walked in, no, she didn't walk in, she flew in and over the bed onto Grace. Grace defended herself immediately as she fell to the floor. The two girls seemed to be scratching at each other. Roman's claws started bearing as Grace just let out screams, not fighting back but just defending herself. You don't fight back a Luna unless you want the whole pack to hate you.
"Stay away from him." Roman growled at her, her eyes becoming a mustard colour. Grace's scars healed immediately as they were bared. The room was getting hotter.
"How can I stay away if he follows me?" Grace struggled to say as she pushed Roman off her. Roman fell on her back and Grace scurried to get up.
"As if." Roman snapped as she stood to her own feet. The rage did not fit her at all.
"I won't fight a battle you're fighting alone. Khai wants someone who will satisfy him, you're too shy to even let him touch you. He is even coming to me for satisfaction." Grace spat, only inches from her. I stood there watching the two girls fight, over me which was immorally satisfying. Roman's eyes shot at me, going calm. No longer a dark mustard colour but a calm shade of gold. Her rage left her and she relaxed into my eyes.
"Is that true?" She asked me in a hushed tone.
"What?"
"That I don't satisfy you?" Roman asked me, her eyes getting glossier by the second. I felt myself frown at her, unsure of how to answer.
"No, you do. Yes, no." I had never been so unsure. "I didn't seek it from her though." I pointed at Grace. Roman furrowed her eyebrows. Grace sighed delightfully as Roman started walking towards me, slowly and looking deeply into my eyes. Her eyes were still sad and looking for comfort in mine. She got up close and kissed me strongly, pushing me back but I refused to fall so instead I walked back, following her direction out the room as she kissed me.
I gripped her waist and held some of her weight as she led me to my room. Roman suddenly had an addictive taste. It was like being on a drug that was good for you. I fumbled with the knob and opened it.A/N: Sorry for posting so late, I've noticed my growing readers and I would really appreciate some criticism, constructive criticism if you may.
