I can't keep myself from asking him, I feel the urge to ask, but before I even open my mouth he asks me something that made my eyes grow bigger.
"Hannah, I know that we just saw each other again in a while, but I was wondering, do you have a boyfriend? Just wondering, you know."
I can't believe he just asked me that.
"Oh, no. I don't have a boyfriend."
"But, you've been in a relationship before, right?"
"Yes, of course. Only two formal relationships, but it was something back then."
I feel him staring at me, checking my every move on the steering wheel.
"You have a girlfriend, right?"
"Ammm, no. Not exactly."
"Okay. So..... how's that going?"
He cleared his throat before answering.
"Actually, we broke up some weeks ago."
I feel how my cheeks turn red after listening to his answer.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know that....."
He cut me off and didn't let me finish.
"I'm actually happy about it. I feel 'free' again. No one holding me back."
I park the car, set the car in parking and turn the engine off before I take my purse from behind my seat and keep my keys in the small compartment in it.
"Let's go."
He said, before opening the car door and closing it right behind him before coming to open the door for me to get out.
"Hannah, I want to get to know you better. I want to finally get to know you, just like I wanted years ago."
"Well, I'm here, and you're here. To me, it sounds like you just got another chance to finally know me."
I don't know what I'm saying because the words just practically slipped from my mouth. He put his sunglasses on his head, making his golden cascade of hair flow backwards so perfectly I feel the need to touch it and have his hair between my fingers, pulling him closer to me for my lips to brush against his and.....
"Awesome, that's all I wanted to hear."
We walk into the place and approach the counter. I still can't believe he actually wants t get to know me. Luke Hemmings wants t get to know me, Hannah Turner, a normal young woman that works for a magazine and is't dressing u in fancy clothes or attending massive parties.
I'm a common girl. I'm just me, and he's Luke, and I'm about to eat at McDonald's with him.
"What would you like to have, Hannah?"
"I want the smallest chicken hamburger. Yes, I guess I'll have that."
He looked at me with his eyebrows raised and a side smile.
"There's no way I'll ever let you have that at McDonald's."
"I don't normally eat meat, or just food in big quantities and..."
He cut me off (again).
"Well, this time you're with me."
And then, he winked at me before ordering some two Double Bacon Cheeseburgers, each one with some big French fries.
"Thank you, Luke."
"No problem, Hannah."
Luke handed me the tall red cup for me to go fill it with some soda (or apple juice, because I'm not a soda fan) and ice cubes.
We sat down on the booth that was at the back of the place. Luke sat down in front of me before they called him to pick-up the order.Luke came back with the red tray full of food (or at least it looked that it was full because of the massive size of the food).
He set the tray in the middle of the table and sat down in front of me, when he looked at me and stood up. Luke just sat down again, but this time he sat down next to me.
He pulled the tray closer to us and he unwrapped my cheeseburger before handing it to me.
"Thanks, Luke."
"You're welcome, Hannah."
I looked at him before giving a bite to the cheeseburger. He was still looking at me as I chewed the meat in my mouth. It was an awkward thing for me, normally people mock me when I chew because I apparently move my lips a lot.
"You gave such a small bite. That's kinda cute."
Wait, did Luke say I was cute? No.... right?
"I'll take that as a compliment."
And then I giggled more to myself.
"It is, indeed."
We ate as we laughed about things we used to do when we were younger and then.... his girlfriend came back to our conversation.
"She started saying stuff about the guys and me, and she never really supported my work, you know? It's just that, when you love someone you support them, but..... no, she wasn't like that."
I honestly feel bad for him, I never thought he could take a relationship so seriously to the point when he even thought about the future.
"Luke, you'll find someone who will support you, in every single way."
In other words I said 'I'm here!', or that's what I wished to tell him, just.... not yet.
"There's always that one person out there, waiting for someone like them to come. To have someone that will be there in their good days, and is willing to support them in the bad ones. That one person that you want to spend the last of your days with. I'm still waiting too, there's still time, Luke."
He stared right into my eyes and I could see he was truly hurt. I don't blame him, sometimes we just let ourselves slip, and that had happened to me before, but we have to learn how to move on, just like I did.
"For now, I will just wait. I think I might've found that person."
He smiled before standing up and giving me his hand so I could stand up too.
"I guess I might have too."
I said, or mumbled. I know he heard me because as I was right in front of him, he just looked back to my eyes.
Is this like a 'date'? Because if it is, I already declared my love(? for him. Love or something else, but anyways, I did.
