Bethany Witmore
We drove for hours, not wanting to stop. We were so afraid they would suddenly appear and take us.
"We have to stop for gas." I said, warily. I glanced over at Delaney and she was staring off into the road. Her expression was unreadable but she looked...gone.
"I don't think we should." She said.
"We don't have a choice."
"But, those people are going to come for us again!" She exclaimed, her hands clutching onto the sides of her seat. I could feel the tension between us, and it made me feel guilty.
"They aren't people." I said, coming to the drastic conclusion that these people were not human. I recalled the way Luke's eyes glowed when he advanced towards me. He looked so scary.
Suddenly, my phone rang and it made the both of us jump. I looked at her and she at me. We both shared a look of fright, pulling over into an empty gas station. I picked my phone up off of the floor where it had lay abandoned. I didn't recognize the number on the screen, but the area code was local. After exchanging glances with Delaney I reluctantly answered the phone, putting it too my ear. The cold glass connected with my face, making me shiver.
"Hello?"
There was silence for about three seconds.
"I know you are worried, but Gabriel is safe. I can promise you that. No one would ever lay a finger on him." A voice came through the phone, sending chills down my spine. The voice belonged to no one but Luke.
"How do I know that you aren't lying?"
"I couldn't lie to you, my love." He said, his voice slightly cracking.
"Don't call me that." I ordered, and there was more silence.
"I'm Luke Desantos I'll call you whatever I want. But, please stop running. I need you." He said, his voice coming out as a plea. I felt my heart tug. I was feeling for him!
"You don't even know me." I snapped, my voice shrinking smaller.
"But, I do. Stay where you are." He ordered.
"Never, you creepo and I am coming to get Gabriel!"
"My favorite part of capturing someone is the chase, Bethany." Every word seemed to make my heart beat quicker. I felt paralyzed, taking the phone from my face and staring at it in horror.
"Well, great..because that's all you'll ever experience with me." I said, hanging up the phone. I got out of the car, tossing my phone into the trash can. I knew he was probably tracking it. I'm not dumb. I ran into the AmPm, happy to see a friendly smile on the clerk. He was handsome, but not my type by a long shot.
"Good evening, miss." He said, and I nodded with a brief smile. I grabbed two Smart waters and a few bags of organic apple chips, not forgetting to retrieve a few chocolate bars.
Nothing got my mind thinking better than chocolate.
I brought them up to the cash register, releasing everything.
"Woah, that's a lot of food." He said, trying to make light conversation. I nodded as he started ringing up the items.
"Oh, can I have a hundred on four?" I asked, and he nodded. I handed him my credit card, watching as he handled his business. Then, the phone rang. I knew I had no reason to worry, but I was still a little cautious.
