Chapter 3 : Mission Impossible

Waii wiped off the sweat on his forehead by his wristband. He saw the shuttlecock coming close to him so he positioned himself and his racket. He is good at backhand shots, many people told him that, and that's what he used against his bestfriend, Kluay. He returned the shuttlecock to the other side of the court but Kluay with all his might, is not fast enough to catch up and retrieve it.

"Waii, you're still amazing! Seems like nothing changed," Kluay happily said to Waii as their match ends.

They shake hands and sat down to the nearest bench.

"That's expected since the beginning. I'm not like the others who already felt arthritis," Waii joked on his friend. They've known each other for a long time. They were in high school when they first met and until now, they're still friends. Both of them are bisexuals, so their relationship extends to a brotherly love. Their difference is that Kluay already have an Achi, while Waii have none. He doesn't wasnt to.

Waii suddenly looked to his knees and he can't contain his irritation. He instantly remembered the time when he felt that his life almost ended.

Waii is in a soccer match that time, when suddenly the ball was passed to him. He was prepared though, they practiced it before but then he was overwhelmed by how many strikers were after him. As the opponent tried to steal the ball from him, the worst accident in his life happened. He was accidentally kicked in his knee calf making him fall on the ground and since he is still holding on to the ball, the other strikers tried to kick the ball off of him hitting his spine. It was painful. He almost lose his consciousness on that match and how he wished it would happen so he won't feel the pain. He wants to shout very badly but nothing comes out of his mouth.

Waii was rushed to the hospital. Many tests were run until they finally release the results. All along, Waii knew that he won't be able to walk again. He conditioned and prepared himself for that news. Waii knew that the doctors won't tell him that he can't walk, for they are taught to give their patients hope, even if it seems impossible. Once the doctor came in his room, he starts the news by saying that all he needed is an extensive therapy and he needs to persevere to bring back his mobility little by little.

"Doc, can you please cut the bullshit? Can you just give me the plain truth?" Waii replied. He looked at the doctor who holds the results in the eye.

"Okay, since you are too eager for the truth, I hope you can handle it well. Since you favor truthfulness, I will tell you the truth," the doctor replied. "Listen, worst case scenario is that you can't walk again. Your injury on the spine is a serious matter and the spine fusion is still a problem til now. Your knee injury can be treated but as I said earlier, you need to undergo on an extensive therapy just to regain your mobility. The only problem is your spine, Waii. There is hope if you can be operated in the States because they already had a medical breakthrough with this. They don't offer miracles but they have high success rate especially in your case," he explained.

It's true that Waii had a little chance of recovery but that doesn't mean that he will give up. Hope is the reason why he had the courage to face Wan. She is Waii's girlfriend. She is the second love of his life, Gant is his first. They were in highschool when he and Gant started dating and since Waii is just coming out, he can say that Gant is his first love. They dreamed about their future together but all their plans were shattered by Gant's parents. Gant's parents lived in the States and that was when their petition for Gant was granted. Waii even believed that Gant would stay but after all, that's his parents. That's his first heartbreak, but then he moved on. Waii just kept in mind that they were still young and they didn't have a choice back then.
