Romance is in the air. Apo could feel it. He can feel the romance soothing in his body. He was in Fay's house. Fay and Waii are having dinner inside while Apo stood outside, in the balcony. He was looking at nothing in the night sky. Romance was in the air but there was a terrible pain in his heart.

Apo didn't understand the pain. Why was it there? He was supposed to be happy. He should be feeling the satisfaction of having a job well done. Because of his quick thinking, he successfully built a bridge that will lead to an everlasting love.

The sound of Fay's laughter made him turn around. From the ooen door of the balcony, he can clearly see the two laughing. Except that they were through with dinner. They're making their way to the receiving room, with wine glass on their hands. Apo saw Waii took a sip on it before it speaks.

"That sounds so good," Waii praised Fay's taste of classical music coming from the entertainment system.

Apo picked those CD's himself. He obliged Faye to play those romantic musics. It was from the classical masterpiece of Greig, Chopin at Lizst.

"May I have this dance?" Waii asked.

"Yes, you may," Fay answered blushing.

Apo had to admit, Fay had come a long way. Before, she was a timid and a stuttering woman who interacts with Waii, but now she's a totally changed woman. That meant Apo had succeeded in giving Fay the confidence she needed. It's a great point for him and a bigger chance to be finally free. Except that freedom was not something he longed for now. He was not looking forward for that freedom anymore but to a certain desire he himself doesn't know. Well, he knew what it was, he just don't want to accept it himself because it was not right and it was something he will never have possibly.

Fay handed the wine glass to Waii which the man brought down to the nearest table. Waii carefully aid Fay to the wide area of the receiving room. Their bodies touched while dancing romantically.

Apo closed his eyes the moment Waii and Fay's bodies collide. There's that sting that soothes through his heart caused of that action in front of him. Tears made his eyes burn. Apo tried to stop them from flowing but it was no use. They seeped through his closed eyelids and cascaded down his cheeks. His only consolation was that, he was covered by darkness and the two inside were engrossed with each other to pay him any attention.

Pain was a sharp thing. It slashed, it pierced, it tore, it wrenched. The heart must be a very tough, very strong organ for it to be able to endure the tremendous pain that was being inflicted on it. And Apo really, really felt the pain. It almost makes him ran out of breath. He silently prayed to lose his consciousness for the meantime just to flee from pain.

"You've done your job well."

Apo quickly opened his eyes when someone spoke on his side. It was Ice.

"I did, didn't I?" He replied coldly. He can't find that happiness in his will.

"Why the long face? Just a little more time and I'm betting you'd soon be home free. You can finally return to your real life. Isn't that your goal since the beginning?" Ice said.

"Yes," Apo replied and closed his eyes. Apo now realize the feeling of a heart patient waiting for somebody's heart to be transplanted to them. For that person to live, someone had to die. For him to be able to get back to the life he used to know, something inside him would have to die.

"It's tough, I know." Ice said full of sympathy. "But if it's any consolation..."

"Please don't." Apo cuts off, eyes still closed. He also raised one of his hand, signalling Ice to stop any further spills. Apo was not in the mood to listen to her conciliatory speech because he knows that nothing, nothing could ease the pain he was feeling right now. The pain of loss cut the deepest. It was the one that took the longest time to heal.
