Chapter 13
Jayden and Sofia embraced for a long time. I was sure first period was over a long time before they broke away from each other. I had stopped crying a bit before she did. Sofia looked at me in curiosity for a moment. She seemed unfocused and a bit perplexed. Her eyes were bloodshot, thought I think it wasn't all a result of the crying.
"Where's my bottle?" She asked, waving her arm around.
"Broken," Jayden told her shortly.
It seemed he had forgotten my presence until that moment.
"What?" Sofia looked completely heartbroken. She glanced down at her feet and saw the broken glass. "Oh no," she said sadly.
Then she sat down and pouted.
"Don't pout Fia, it doesn't suit you," Jayden said in a teasing tone. It was something I hadn't heard from him, but I found that I liked it coming from him.
Sofia tried to punch him, but she missed. She looked angrily down on her hand while cussing it out, obviously blaming it and not her own intoxicated state.
"W-why is she here?" Sofia asked, pointing to the empty spot just beside me.
Jayden shrugged and looked in my direction. He didn't say anything.
Sofia didn’t seem to notice. Her attention had been stolen by the alcohol that was lying in a pool on the ground.
"Is that my vodka?" She asked, staring at the liquid.
Jayden nodded solemnly, but a small smile was playing on his face. He was only amusing Sofia.
"I killed it," Sofia mumbled, seeming near tears again.
I wanted so bad to giggle at her comment, but I couldn't. There was no way I would risk the two of them disliking me even more.
"You didn't kill it, Fee," Jayden denied.
"Yeah, I did," Sofia argued.
Jayden was about to say something back, but right at that moment, Riley stepped in through the small gap.
"There you are," she exclaimed, looking directly at me. "I was looking for you in second period, but you weren't there. Reagan was smiling smugly, so I figured you got into another argument with her."
Riley seemed to look at me for a very long time, taking in my tear-stained face.
"And you've been crying," she said with a sigh.
Then she grabbed my arm and dragged me out of the shed.
"Come on; let's get you out of here."
She shot a wary look behind her at Jayden and Sofia, but didn't say anything else.
Riley led me back to the parking lot.
"Why were you in the shed?” she asked, crossing her arms over her chest.
"I didn't want to go to class," I murmured.
Riley shot me a weird look, but didn't say anything. She continued to walk across the parking lot. I wasn't sure where she was going, but I followed her anyway.
Then I saw the row of six motorbikes standing by the iron gates to school. Landon was leaning against a silver bike with shades covering his face.
"I found her," Riley said when she was close enough.
Landon looked at me for a quick second before returning his gaze to her.
"I can see that," he said with a grin. "Nice to see you again, Lissa."
