Bonus Chapter: Jayden’s POV
The room filled up pretty fast. I left the living room for a minute to get a drink and when I got back in, it was stuffed with people I didn’t know. Some of the guest had brought with them small disco balls and strobe lights. Different colors were flashing around, casting the people in a slightly creepy way.
I didn’t know why I bothered with this. It was all Riley and Oliver’s friends. I didn’t know a single person in this room except for my group of friends from school. What I did know though was that mom would kill me when she came home tomorrow morning. She never liked the parties or Riley for that matter.
I scanned around the room, looking for a familiar face when I saw her.
Her long, blonde hair was swishing around her and her smile lit up her face. Her body was moving with the rhythms and I found myself smiling at the sight of her.
Melissa Miller truly was something different.
I hadn’t liked her at first. To me she seemed like just another snobby girl in out expensive private school. One of the girls who only cared about what man to marry to gain the best social standing in this town. She had been dating Damian Young, and damn did I hate that guy. He was just so slick and disturbing, in a way. The way he kept glancing at every girl around him, even when he was with Melissa. Any girl who didn’t dress like nun that was.
Melissa had been the most innocent of them all. She never showed her knees and her socks were always pulled up to the skirt’s edge. Her shirt were hanging off slightly, obviously a size too big and she were always hiding behind Reagan Hill.
She was so insecure and the fact that her mother had been the reason my father was imprisoned only fueled my hatred.
But I didn’t want to get revenge. I didn’t understand Riley’s need to humiliate the girl. Sure, she was special in a weird way. She was insecure, rich, snobby and just plain mean. But that’s just how life works. Privileged people are allowed to do anything they want.
I didn’t want to be a part of Riley’s plan for revenge when she came to me, but at the same time I didn’t care enough to stop her. I watched everyday as bit by bit, the insecure little Melissa Miller was chipped off her until she became what she was today.
I knew she was more confident. She would never have danced the way she did if she still was the old Melissa. Her hips were moving a little more provocatively than I had ever seen and damn! I found myself getting turned on just looking at her.
I had to admit that Sofia had been right when she confronted me earlier this week. I liked Melissa. Or I had a crush on her. I just couldn’t help myself. She was… adorable. She was different in a good way. I liked her a lot actually, and I was glad she was comfortable around me. I would probably never act on my feelings, because a girl like Melissa Miller deserved someone better than me. Someone who could give her everything she ever wanted. And I couldn’t do that.
I kept looking at her for a long time, watching as guys filled up her cup without her noticing. They were all eyeing her up and down, like they were predators and she was the prey. I felt a stab in my stomach. What was that? Jealously, perhaps?
