Chapter 24
I woke up the next morning with a major headache. The room was spinning as I cracked open my eyes. Yesterday was almost completely gone from my memory. I couldn’t remember a thing.
Something was banging and making loud noises from downstairs.
Groaning, I sat up in bed. It nothing to improve the dizziness I felt.
Deciding I had to ignore the bad feelings, I spun around and set my feet on the ground. As I tried to stand up, I noticed I was still wearing the school uniform.
What exactly had happened last night?
Just then, a wave of nausea hit me. I ran to the bathroom and managed to reach the toilet just in time. I barfed and the foul smell found my nose, making me vomit once more.
When my stomach felt as empty as could be, I tried standing up. It worked, just barely. I stumbled my way into my room.
“What…?” I asked when I noticed someone else in the room.
I recognized the young woman as one of the maids who worked here. She was carrying a tray of food and was on her way to my bed.
When she heard my voice, she jumped.
“I’m sorry, miss. Orders from your mother to bring you breakfast.”
“My mother’s home?” I asked in disbelief. She was never home later than eight in the morning.
The maid shook her head.
“No, I’m sorry. She left with specific orders to bring you breakfast and get you to school when you woke.”
I glanced at the clock and noticed second period was already over. With any luck, I might be able to reach school after lunch.
“Thank you,” I said, and watched as she placed the tray on my bed.
“She also said that she wanted to speak to you the moment she comes home.”
With those words, the maid scurried out of the room.
I stood in silence, letting the smell of the food wash over me. It smelled good, but I wasn’t hungry in the slightest. I walked over to my bed and sat down. Just a minute, I told myself.
But I didn’t manage to get of the bed before half an hour had passed. And even then it wasn’t on my own accord. A knock on my window forced me to get up and open for the person who wanted to come in.
The second the window was open, Sofia jumped into my room, followed by Jayden.
“Hey, Mel,” Sofia said cheerily.
“Hi,” I grumbled back.
“Someone’s in a good mood today,” she sang, planting her butt on my bed. “Oh, that smells delicious. Are you going to eat it?”
I didn’t even get to answer before Sofia grabbed the fork and practically inhaled my pancakes. Good thing I hadn’t planned on eating them then.
“What are you doing here?” I asked with a sigh as I sat down beside Sofia.
I noticed in my peripheral vision that Jayden stayed standing.
“When you didn’t show up for any classes yesterday, I asked Riley what she had done. She said you’d gotten drunk of your ass and she had taken you home. Knowing that the repercussion of getting wasted is a hangover, I decided to come over to help you.”
