Chapter 2: Welcome to hell and certain death
When I joined the line, i didn't want to see the Volga crossing with the boats, it was a horrific sight not to seen ever, a plane buzzed past us and crashed in a destroyed building straight ahead, it was a Sutka, another plane cashed right beside it and i saw the pilot floating down to the ground, he was shot in mid-air by a sub-machine gunner, i looked at the rifles and amunition ahead, a officer yelled at us, "THE ONE WITH THE RIFLE SHOOTS! THE ONE WITHOUT THE RIFLE FOLLOWS, WHEN THE ONE WITH THE RIFLE GETS KILLED, THE ONE WHO IF FOLLOWING PICKS UP THE RIFLE AND SHOOTS!" he officer kept on repeating it, while he said his advice over and over, i got a rifle, one of the lucky ones, i looked at the 2 paths ahead and saw a flank route up ahead crossing the ruined buildings, and a trench route to the attack route, i took the attack route, i was in a crouch running position 2 or 4 officers were dealing with any problems with there sub-machine guns above the trench.
i arrived, and saw officers taking cover, each officer had a weapon with them, sub machine guns, semi-automatic rifles, pistols, one had a machine gun with him. The soldiers who survived the wave were hiding, they saw us and their eyes were filled with hope and faith we could push the Germans back, but there were people running towards us, it seemed that they wanted to regroup with us here, but they had to wait. "What idiots! They are going to get slaughtered by our own side!"
The officers were enraged, it seemed there were only about 30 men who wanted to retreat, 10 in wave line but there were many wave lines as i can see, officers from our wave line shouted out, "Turn around! keep going forward!" "Pick up your gun and shoot!" no mercy for cowards!" "Open fire!" "FIRE!" our side was last to fire, one of the wave lines just said "No mercy for deserters, open fire!" and shot at the group, all the officers shot the deserters, they did not care if they had pistols to shoot you them, they will shoot you, the deserters were mowed down, just when the officers from our group said, "No hesitation comrades! Do not take one step backwards!" "For mother Russia comrades, do not turn your back on her!" "Those who retreat will be shot!" "Victory or death!"
He blew the wistle and we all said "URAA!" and charged at the Germans, the one who helped me saved the traitor on the boat was with him and they charged forward, they were blown to pieces by a motar and sharpnel smash, I cursed "Shit!"and continued forward, our men are dying, a saw men shot and mowned down by rifle and machine gun fire, and men blowing up from the sharpnel shells cutting off a some mens head off clean, i decided to avoid the death trap and flanked them, a group of 4 were following me, we ducked down by a ruined fountain, 2 men had 2 semi-automatic rifles, "Comrade! where did you get that!"
One of them replied, "4 officers had them with a bunch of other guns and ammo, they all got killed by snipers, here take this!" he gave me a Scoped Mosin-Nagrant, I gave my original one to my comrade on my right, while the on my left got a PPSH-41, I asked them all, "What are your names comrades?"
The one my right said, "I am Corporal Ivan Pashkhiev."
The one on my left said, "I am Private Dimitri Chievenchuko."
The 2 people who gave us the weapons said, "We are Corporals Georgi and Nikita Brashko, or better known as the Brashko brothers."
I nodded and introduced myself, "I am Private Vasily Zhakhalov."
Though there was yelling, i heard there names loud and clear, just suddenly, 3 soldiers who appear to be women came to us and pointed there guns at us, they all has PPSH-41'S. One said, "Stop talking, this is war! Not a meeting of talking, get your asses up and fight!"
All 8 of us jumped over thae fountain and shot at the Germans, 10 were coming at us, they were mowed down by our bullets, just then Cpl. Pashkiev called out, "ALTILLERY!", the German alltilery shell landed 10 yards near the fountain and everything went black.
