Chapter 8: Home

 (Beth’s POV)

I reach home and in the kitchen my parents are shouting at a boy the same age as me. I notice the back of him. It’s Adam!

‘Beth is not going to boarding school!’ Adam orders.

‘I think you’ll find she is, she’s our daughter!’ dad shouts.

‘Exactly, she’s your daughter. So you should do what’s best for her!’ Adam says.

‘This boarding school IS what’s best for her, young man!’ mum spits back.

‘No it’s not! You think that her having to start her education all over again and making her lose the people at her current school that care about her is what’s best for her? If you do, then you appal me as parents!’

‘Who do you think you are, coming into OUR house and telling us how to bring up OUR child?’ dad screams.

‘I’m the guy who’s secretly been in love with your daughter since she came to this school, so there! I can’t have you taking her away!’

I admire Adam’s control over me. It’s just upsetting that Ryan isn’t over here fighting for me. Instead it’s Adam. I walk in.

‘Mum, Dad, please don’t make me go.’ I say.

‘I’m afraid we gave you plenty of chances to improve your behaviour, but sleeping with your English teacher was the last straw!’ mum states.

Adam turns to me shocked.

‘You slept with Ryan?’ he asks slightly hurt.

‘You love me?’ I bite back. I look at my parents again. ‘So here’s the deal. If you make me go to this stupid school, then I’m running away. And there’s nothing you can do to stop me’ I blackmail.

‘Fine, run away. But just know you’ll be doing the exact same thing Thomas did. You’re a coward, you always will be!’

‘Don’t you DARE call her that!’ Adam declares. ‘If anything she’s the person with the biggest balls in this school! Metaphorically of course, well… I hope. Anyway that’s not the point, the point is she’s strong, she’s independent and it’s because she’s independent that she’s protesting against this boarding school! What she wants is to dance, not to write! And if you want her to suffer through her whole life by being miserable because she’s doing something she doesn’t want to do, then what sort of parents are you? Wake up and realise your daughter is old enough to make her own choices, if you let her be what she wants to be ,and in this case it’s dancing, she won’t misbehave, cause mischief or get into trouble because she will find something to live for. And that’s dance!’ Adam proudly speaks.

My parents have no reply to that. They finally realised they were wrong all along.

‘And another thing, you wonder why I’d be doing the exact same thing as Thomas by running away. It’s because you fail as parents. For it to happen twice to both your children, it’s got to be you.’ I spitefully spit. I know it’s harsh but they deserve it after they sh*t they’ve been suggesting.

‘Fine. We won’t send you to the boarding school.’ Dad whimpers.

Me and Adam take a sigh of relief.

‘But you are going to a different school’ mum states.

‘WHAT!’ I scream.

‘One that offers dance scholarships!’ dad says. I scream with happiness and dive into my parents arm and group hug them.

‘Thank you so much mum and dad! I love you!’ I say.

‘That’s a first! You’ve never told us that, Beth!’ mum screams happily.

‘Maybe Adam’s suggestion might work after all’ dad says while smiling at Adam slightly.

An hour goes by while me, mum and dad are talking about dance schools. Adam’s in the corner acting all moody. We both stand outside my front door alone and talk.

 (Adam’s POV)

‘Hey what’s wrong?’ Beth asks me while staring at me with her big blue beautiful eyes that I can’t resist.

‘You’re still going to move schools, I don’t want you leaving me’ I say looking down upset.

‘Well then buy a tutu and become a ballerina and take a dance scholarship with me!’ Beth crazily suggests.

I can’t help but break out into fits of laughter.

‘I’d rather see you in super short skirt, thanks’ I joke cheekily. Beth playfully slaps my arm. We stop and stare into each other’s eyes. I can’t control it but my lips plunge for hers…

 (Ryan’s POV)

She’s 45 minutes late. I’m getting worried now so I decide to drive by her house. I know where she lives because I saw it in the school database. Creepy I know but it could be an emergency. Her parents could have caught her trying to escape and they locked her in their basement! I drive past all the houses in her street in the attempt to find the right street number. I get to the right house and in front I see to figures. I squint so I can focus better and all I see is Adam kissing Beth. She pushes him away after a few seconds.

 (Beth’s POV)

I see Ryan getting out his car, slamming the door, storming up to Adam and punching him in the face; hard. Adam falls onto the side of mum’s car and head-butts the hard surface and fall to the floor lifeless. He’s not moving, and it looks like he’s not breathing.
