Embry and myself walked down the halls of the small building going to our first hour. It was a nice walk, we were talking about ourselves to try to get to know each other. We were just talking about anything and everything. Favorite colors, foods, animals, future plans, things like that. It was really nice to all to him and make a friend.
Very soon we walked into the classroom where we needed to be and we sat down in the back right next to the door, Per my request. Maverick laid down beneath the desk we shared to stay out of the way. I pulled my bag onto my desk and continued to take out my binder that consisted of my notebook and pencil. Time continued to move fast and people slowly started to trickle in, but no one really noticed that there was a new girl in the classroom.
"Hey Embry," I started. "Uhm, what class is this?"
"It's English." He laughed at me.
I nervously chuckled and opened my binder just as the bell rung.
I was really good at English but it usually involves a lot of discussions and socializing. Something that I have not felt comfortable doing for a while. Plus, with this being a new school, I wasn't jumping at the bit to talk to people.
Not long after the bell rang the teacher walked in the room and shut the door behind her. She was this older lady. She was shorter, had grayish hair, and had a soft raspy voice.
"We are going to continue writing our weekly papers on the philosophical topic, what is the difference between religion and superstition." She explained the parameters of the assignment and that we would have the rest of the time to work on it.
I just kept my head low hoping she wouldn't see me.
And she didn't, thank the lord.
That is how my day went. Sitting with Embry and sometimes with the other pack members, keeping my head low. Just hoping to get through the day. I was really shocked that the boys behaved and allowed me to lay low and just squeak by.
Sam must've told them I don't like attention or something.
The beginning of lunch, I decided to sit outside and eat, so Maverick could go to the bathroom and get some fresh air.
I sat on the little edge of sidewalk and opened my bag. I pulled my food and Maverick's food out. I placed Maverick's food in the bowl and began eating my sandwich. Embry and Jake joined me for lunch.
Right now at lunch people are starting to notice me and Maverick.
Something I most definitely did not want.
I started get a little shaky and anxious, so I grabbed my bag and started digging through it. Trying to find my medicine to stop the oncoming attack.
"Niah, Is everything okay?" Embry asked after I was struggling to find my medicine.
"Embry, I c-can't find what I'm looking-g-g for." I stutter ripping through my bag.
"Here let me find it." He lightly grabs my bag and goes through it looking for my medicine. Sam told him prior to me arriving about my medication.
As he was going through it, Maverick laid down on my lap. Calming me a little. I played with his ears to help ground me further.
Across from me Jake asked me a question, " Niah, What's your favorite color?"
I focused on Maverick and mumbled an answer to his question. Jake just kept giving me questions to answer. He is trying to get my mind off of what was going on. He was asking me basic questions and having me answer them.
A minute late Embry handed me my pill bottle and bottle of water. I opened both bottles took a pill and swallowed it down quickly.
"Thanks guys, I should feel good in a few minutes." I gabbed my bag and began to sort it all out again, and place all of Mavericks stuff back in it. It was silent for a few minutes.
