The Move

I sat on my bed, looking at the two suitcases that were by my door zipped up. My head fell into my hands and I let out a big sigh. Suddenly, I felt a big sloppy kiss on my face that was exposed . I lifted my head laughing at my dog and pet his head.  I stood up and grabbed my phone, backpack with my laptop, book, journal, and medication. I grabbed my pillow and began to leave my room.

"Niah," My mother called up the stairs. "Are you ready yet?"

"Not really." I mumbled pulling my two suitcases and Maverick's bag out of my room.

"Yeah I'm ready!" I called down. "But can I get some help pulling my things down?"

I heard my mother mumble a form of a positive answer and came running upstairs to help me pull my things down stairs. She grabbed my dog's bag and the heavier of my two suitcases, while I had my pillow, back pack, and lighter suitcase.

"Thanks mom." I said as I pulled my stuff to the stairs and began to pull them down the stairs.

We both slowly pulled my stuff down the flight of stairs, Maverick waited at the top of the stairs waiting for me to call him. My mother and I reached the bottom of the stairs and I pulled on my converse, tied them up and grabbed my olive green jacket. We began to make our way to the door and I called down Maverick.

"Maverick! come on, buddy!" I called for him as my mother opened the door. Almost immediately after calling him, I heard his paws hitting the carpeted steps and him coming to where I called him to.

"Good job buddy." I pet his head and held the door open for him.

He exited the door as I followed him.

I made my way to my mothers SUV. My father was helping my mom lift my bags into the back of the car. I made my way to him and refused to make eye contact as I helped him place my things into the trunk. Once my suitcases were in the back I opened the back door letting Maverick know to get in the back seat. After he crawled in I sat next to him shutting the door behind me. I saw his bag was placed on the floor behind the driver seat, before grabbing anything out of his bag, I placed my bag on the floor in between the driver and passenger seats. My jacket stuffed into the back pack, and my pillow against the door.

I then reached over him and pulled out a chew stick for him to have something to do on the way to Forks. He curled his body next to my leg as I leaned against the window putting in my earbuds and turning on James bay.

I slowly began to fall asleep before we even left.

I woke up about an hour and a half later. My leg had fallen asleep, and had Arianna grande blasting in my ears.

I sat up straight and popped my ear buds out of my ears and listened to my parents talk.

"Hey honey," My mother started. "You're finally awake."

"Mom I'm not little, can you please not call me that." I stated starting to rub Maverick's head and playing with his ears. Something that I loved doing, it was soothing.

"Sorry Niah. Out of habit." She apologized turning around to face me. "Did you take your afternoon meds?"

"Yes mom." I huffed still playing with Maverick's ears.

"How much longer?" I asked looking at her.

"About two hours." My father huffed looking forward.

Ever since my father and mom started fighting, my father had not been so keen on me. He's the main reason that I am going to live with my cousin, so they 'can work things out on their own.' Since they decided I am staying with my cousin, my father has refused to talk to me.

Which is a good thing, because I take it as if he disowned me and no longer wanted me. If he was just going to drop me off at my cousin's house and no longer talk to me, that was fine with me. I didn't want to talk to you anyways.

After my father huffed, my mother turned around and we just sat in silence the entirety of the ride.

I am not complaining.

We finally arrived at my cousins house in Forks. She lives with her fiancé, Sam, on the Indian reservation. The two of them were out on the porch waiting for us.

I smiled big.

I haven't seen my cousin in so long. She has acted like such an older sister to me and I could not have asked for a better older sister then her. She knew my feelings about this whole situation and also didn't understand why my parents were just dropping me off and figuring things out for their own.

I opened the door and ran up to Emily, hugging her.

"God," I whispered. "I missed you."

"I have missed you too, I just wish I got to see you on better terms." She whispered back.

I pulled away from her and smiled at Sam waving. He reciprocated the actions.

"Let's get your things." Emily said heading towards my parents car.

"Sounds good." I said following her to the car, Sam following me.

I went to the back seat of the car where Maverick was and my smaller things. I opened the door and Maverick jumped out and stretched himself out. I climbed back in to grab my back pack, pillow and Maverick's bag.

My parents were just sitting there.

"Aren't you guys going to come help?" I questioned as the trunk popped open.

"I am, I was just waiting for you guys to come and get your stuff." My mother stated as she  climbed out of the car to join Sam and Emily.

"I guess you aren't." I mumbled to my dad and climbed out of the car.

"Are you sure you got it guys? I can help." My mother offered to them.

"We got this, If you want, you can grab Mavericks bag." Sam said.

That is what she did. She grabbed his bag and followed them inside to help get me settled.

We followed Sam and Emily upstairs and to the first room on the right. That was my new room. As we entered I saw that Emily had done up the room so I would feel more at home. The room was a soft grey and had black accents on the molding of the room. My bed was easily a queen size, with a grey comforter and pillows and a black knitted blanket at the end of my bed.

Maverick jumped up on the bed and laid his head down.

"You blend in buddy." Sam Laughed petting his head.

He had sat my stuff down by the walls, as did everyone. I was looking around my room taking it all in.

"Well I have to go." My mother said as she hugged me and quickly told me she loved me and that if I needed anything to call.

All the bull she tells me.

She hurried down the stairs as Emily, Sam and I look out my window as my mother and father quickly pull away from the house and out of the reservation.

"Emily would you mind helping me set my room up?" I asked her smiling.

"Of course!" She giggled and we began going through my stuff as Sam played with Maverick.
