Summer's legs were sprawled across the living room floor meanwhile my head was rested against Shawn's chest, his arm wrapped around me, not allowing me to escape his grasp.

Quietly I scrambled for my phone, hoping I wouldn't wake summer or Shawn.

6:05am, why am i always the one to wake up the earliest when friends sleep over?

My mum must have came home really late last night after work, without either of us hearing, we were up pretty late last night.

'Baby, what are you doing? Go back to sleep?'

Running his hands through his hair before rubbing my arm Shawn whispered probably in attempt to not wake Summer.

'I just need to make sure my mum is home, did you hear her come in?'

Yawning I questioned as I scrambled out of his grasp.

He shook his head before yawning.

'Go back to sleep'

Whispering I said before I began walking upstairs to my mums bedroom.

My stomach was churning, I had a strange, bewildered feeling clinging onto my heart, I felt this strong sense of imminent fear.

Cautiously I entered her room but instead of finding her there I found a man?

'Dad?'

I croaked out as I began to walk closer.

'Dad?'

Shaking him in attempt to wake him up I whispered louder this time.

The figure that possessed my mothers bed began to stir; eventually rubbing his eyes before sitting up.

'Arie?'

'Dad!'

I squealed before I clambered onto the bed and engulfed him in a huge hug.

'Darlin' how happy am I to see you?'

'I can't believe you're here!'

The feeling I felt was indescribable, the happiness the consumed me was magical, I felt like I was a kid again. Becoming content with the smallest gestures.

Before pulling away from his grasp he furrowed his eyebrow, me returning the gesture.

'Was that a boy I saw when I came in last night?'

The heat in my cheeks rapidly increased while they turned a completely different colour.

'His name is Shawn. He's great dad, I swear'

'And would your mother allow him to sleep over?'

'We were downstairs, summer was here too, nothing would have happened'

'Well you looked completely comfortable while you was laying on his chest and his arm wrapped around you, hmmm?'

Instantly I groaned, I am very fortunate to have a mum like mine to allow Shawn and Summer to stay over, it's not like she allows anything to happen she just trusts me. Whereas my dad, he is barely here, meaning he doesn't get to watch me grow up. He doesn't want me to either.

'Dad, i swear nothing ha- where's mum?'

I began but quickly realised my mum wasn't witnessing this very embarrassing moment.

'Darlin', that's why I am here'

That feeling I had earlier- imminent fear? that feeling decided to show, clinging onto me like a lifeline this time.

'Where's mum?'

I repeated not taking my eyes off of my dad.

'Last night I received a call, around 10, it was from a doctor. Your mum was rushed into hospital'

All of the happiness that consumed me was ripped out, not leaving a trace of happiness, all I could feel was pain.

'I-is she okay?'

I stuttered while fiddling with my ring, the ring my mum brought me, tears brimming my eyelids.

''She had a respiratory arrest'

'W-what? Is she going to be okay?'

I mumbled while a tear fell down my cheek, my mother almost died and I wasn't even informed, i was having fun while my mother was in hospital?

'Let's hope so, kid'

'Why didn't you tell me?'

'It was late, I thought you'd be asleep I didn't know you had company, I didn't want to worry you'

I scoffed before standing up.

'Worry me? She's my mum of course you should have told me!'

'I'm sorry but we can visit her later on, hopefully she will be conscious'

I gasped in disbelief, how could one person's happiness be stripped away from them so quickly. I should have known something bad happened that's why he was home. The last time he was here was when my mum got hit by a car. I should have known something bad happened.

'She's not even conscious?'

He shook his head trying incredibly hard to fight the tears back.

'Ari, what's taking you so long? Omg aria, what's wrong? Are you okay?'

Shawn mumbled before he saw me, crying, he came running over to my side and engulfed me in a hug. Running his hand through my hair.

'My mum, she's in hospital'

I whispered, choking on my words.

'Oh my god! Is she okay? Will she be okay? I'm so sorry'

He began while he hugged me even tighter before he glanced down at me and wiped away the tears that were falling down my face.

I looked up at him, with a trembling lip, and began crying all over again.

'It will be okay, I promise, it will be okay'

'Don't promise something you have no control over'

I mumbled as I sunk down on the floor.

'You must be Shawn'

My dad interrupted, reaching his hand out to shake Shawn's, by the look on Shawn's face I'm pretty sure he didn't see him there before he came running in.
