'i'm scared'

I croaked out as I glanced up at Shawn. Instead of saying anything he intertwined our fingers and held me closer.

'I'll be right out here. I will be here'

Eventually he spoke as he gave me a small, sincere smile.

Nodding I pushed open the hospital door, seeing multiple wires attached to my mum, she looked frozen.

Reluctantly I walked over to her, grabbing her frigid fingers with my tremulous hands, I held her hand tight.

'mama, i am so sorry'

I whispered as I watched the machine beep with every breath she took.

'you can't leave me now'

'you promised me always and forever'

I began, struggling to articulate my own sentences.

'always and forever it must be'

'i love you, mama. don't leave me alone'

Placing a gentle kiss on her frozen hand I walked back out into the waiting area to find my dad and Shawn.

'here kiddo'

my dad said as he handed me a steaming cup of coffee, gratefully I accepted it as I took a seat next to Shawn.

'I will stay here for a while, Shawn would you be so kind to take arie home?'

'of course! anything, sir'

I giggled as I hugged my dad goodbye as Shawn called him 'sir'.

'call me if anything changes'

---

'Arie huh?'

Shawn spoke, breaking the silence, none of us had uttered a word the whole car journey home.

'at least it isn't as worse as shawny'

I giggled before unlocking my door.

'Hey!'

He chuckled in defence.

'I guess I'll leave you to it, call me if you need me okay? And I mean it, anything'

He mumbled giving me a shy smile.

'Could you... could you stay?'

I muttered as I fiddled with my sleeve.

'I mean I totally understand if you can't I just don't want to be alone'

'Of course, ari'

'Thank you, Shawn'

I sighed as I walked into my desolate house.

Everything seemed darker, sadder even. Poignance filled the air.

'are you okay?'

Closing the door, shawn whispered while he took his jacket off.

I simply nodded.

'it's tough, really tough, but i am sure you'll get through this. Both of you'

He said while pointing to the photo frame that held the most valuable photo of my mum and I.

'all we can do is hope'

I whispered as I traced my fingers across the dusty photo frame.

a tear, then another, came cascading down my cheeks. It was as if they were racing each other, to see who could fall first.

'Ari, come here'

Shawn spoke as he cradled me into his arms, running his fingers through my tangled hair, while i sobbed onto his shoulder.

'everything will be okay in the end, you'll see'
