Desperation sat in his chair, staring at his large flatscreen, watching as the protectors destroyed the caravan of Beast Carriers. Anger filled his mind as he held his remote and began to crush it in his palm. He watched the shattered remote's pieces fall to the ground at his feet and his assistant looked at the mess.
"Would you like me to clean that up?" Desperation rubbed his masks chin as he thought. The recording from a few hours ago.
"Please do." Midori nodded and grabbed a dust pan, walking back over to the desk and cleaning the mess up relatively quickly.
"Sir..." Desperation looked to the door, seeing a bloodied and beaten soldier. He held his arm tightly as blood covered his sleeve from his hand down. "They came out of no where..."
"Were you the only one to survive?" The man nodded.
"Yes sir... I barely made it. The only thing that saved me was getting that one girl hurt. If we hadn't, I wouldn't have survived."
"Tell me. Do you believe that you survived for a reason?" The man stared at Desperation, slightly confused. "Do you believe you survived due to fate?"
"Sir... what are you asking?" Desperation stood up, placing his hands on the desk, and the painted on eyes staring at the soldier's.
"Do. You. Think. You. Survived. For. A. Reason." The man stood there thinking for a moment, then nodded.
"I believe so sir. If I didn't, I couldn't help with the next-"
"You did not survive for any reason except prove you are weak." Desperation said, cutting him off.
     "W-what?"
"You. Are. Weak. If you were strong, you would've stayed there and fought. If you were strong you would've killed those damn Protectors. If you were strong, you would die for that caravan and The Corporation. Yet, here you are. Standing there, bleeding on my carpet, leaving stains down the hall, and dirtying everything I have worked so hard for, including The Corporation's name, and my own."
"I'm so sorry sir! Please forgive me!" The man pleaded. Desperation grinned under his mask. "Please let me make it up to you! I'll do anything!"
"Desperation, does not forgive weakness." As he stood shaking in fear and sadness, he lost feeling in his legs and fell to his knees. Desperation grabbed his gun, the Desert Eagle with a golden trim around a leather grip. He walked around his desk and over to the man on his knees, looking down at him with the dark, soulless, painted on black eyes. The man's face runny with dirt as tears pushed it down his face.
     "Please...."
"When you are strong enough, come back to us in another form." He pressed the barrel to the man's forehead and the entire building echoed with the sound of a gunshot. Everything went silent for a moment, the moment broken as quickly as it was made. "Midori. Be sure to get someone to clean this trash up."
"Sir, do you think he may have had vital information?"
"I got all the information I needed from that recording." Desperation walked over to his desk chair and started to take the gun apart piece by piece. Cleaning the blood off of pieces that needed cleaning and cleaning other parts just to keep them clean. Midori walked over to the trash can and dumped the controller pieces into it, then put the dustpan and broom away.
"I will dispose of the body now sir. Will you be expecting any attacks or ambushes while I'm gone?" Desperation finished putting the gun back together. He quickly slid the clip in and pulled the slide.
"I will be fine Midori." Desperation laid the gun on his desk and turned his chair so he could look out the window behind him.
"Yes sir." She grabbed the body and pulled it away. "He's so cool," Midori thought to herself.
An image flashed in her mind, Desperation standing with his hands in his pockets as he stared out at the ocean, but turning and looking at Midori as she walked in.
"Midori, I can handle myself, but I would love for you to stay here with me." He outstretched his hand to her and Midori blushed as she took it. Desperation yanked her into his arms and looked down at her, pulling his mask up slightly just to expose his lips. "Midori."
"S-sir." As he leaned in Midori felt her whole face burn from the idea.
"AH! Midori stop that! He's the boss! You can't have those thoughts!" She left the body to morgue and the dieners took it from there. Midori began her walk back as she thought to herself more. "I wonder what he looks like under that mask..."
