Prologue

                  We heard a distant wail from deep into the brush. I rolled up from the grass and sniffed the air. I gave my friend a curious look and we started for the woods. He gracefully leapt in and out, over the prickles, and made erratic twists and turns around the ever dense grove of trees. He saw that I was struggling while trying to push my large body through the brush, while getting prickles caught in my rough, coarse fur. He tried to help me, but I couldn't move the same way he did. That's when we heard another wail and a whimper. I could smell the scent of this poor creature. I smelled sweat and blood along with, oddly enough, honey! I heard him snort and I could tell he was surprised and a bit scared. I pushed forward into a small clearing a saw a small child. A human girl. He was getting frightened now, he started backing up towards me. This wasn't supposed to happen. She wasn't allowed to be here. I knew I had to do something, so I cautiously walked up to the child. She was apprehensive at first, but then she pet my fur...and I let her.
