Nuzzled in the field long grass, the deer rest. Esperanto is mindlessly staring off into the distance when his father comes over and stands above him. He gets up to meet his father's gaze. "Hey, Dad! What's sha-" Esperanto manages to say before his dad cuts him off. "We need to talk, son," his father sternly says, "Privately." They both walk over to a small patch of honeysuckle bushes.
"What's the matter?"
"The matter is that you're coming of age, and it's about time we find you a mate....to be our queen."
His father hesitates to speak, for his son remains silent.
"Esperanto, you know how the times are nowadays- how they've changed since I was a young buck. And well, we need a more sensible queen to help along a...a..not so astute King."
"You think that when I become king I'm gonna screw everything up, because-because I'm not astute? What does that even mean dad? And who is going to be my mate? Do you think you're going to choose her for me?"
The conversation is becoming more heated than expected, but the Head Buck knows how to keep it under control. In a harsh whisper the King says, "Calm down. I did not mean to get you upset my liege, but it's true. You are going to need a mate to balance out your.... free-spirited personality. And yes we will be choosing your queen because you don't seem to even want to take interest in these many well kept, sensible, does!"
"Just give be a chance to find a girl I like, dad, before you pair me off with some crazy, wicked, dame!"
"You've got one week, my son, or yes, I will be choosing our kingdom's future queen! And must I add, wisely.."  The King strides off into the direction of the counsel for another one of the dire meetings. Esperanto wonders how on earth he is going to find his deer bride in a week when these things usually take months.

You know, our young prince thought, the only reason my dad is king is because our family continues to have the largest antlers in the herd. It's in our genes! To be-to be the responsible, the rule-maker, to make decisions, to watch over the land, and to...to control the primitive hunger of all the species! It's not fair how just because I come from a long line of big-headed bucks, that I have to be responsible for all the kingdom's problems. How I supposed to get up everyday knowing that if I don't work things out and stay on top of things, the kingdom- my kingdom could collapse?!
