"Greek Mythology. A topic I am sure at least a few of you know about. Now, can anyone tell me something they know about Greek gods for example?"
Mr. Nevile questioned.
"Olive..." He said lazily as he pointed towards my proudly raised arm- which was the only arm raised out of a class of twenty pupils.
"Well, sir, there were hundreds of Goddesses and Gods in that time period. Too many to name in fact but, there are some iconic ones that everyone should know. For example, Zeus, Poseidon-"
"Hey Olive, I think you meant to say Gods first before Goddesses. It sounds better in my ear. Besides, I think you should just stop blabbering and that should sound better in everyone's ears." The infuriating class bully interrupted (making no sense) as he laughed stupidly.
"Shut up Francis!" Mr. Nevile yelled.
"Francis does it please you to pick on people who are just trying their best to succeed? Something that I am convinced you will never do?" My best friend countered.
"You wanna test me Nicole?!" Francis began to say as he stood up trying to showcase the power he thinks he has over Nicole.
"How about all of you shut up and stay in your seats or all of you will be standing outside the headmasters office in a few seconds!" Mr. Nevile yelled for the last time and just like that, the class was silent.
The class continued in pin drop silence for the remainder of the lesson and just as the bell rang, everyone charged out of the class all in attempt to escape the tension filled air that was circulating through the room. After the great student migration, I stood up from my seat and started packing my things into my bag. I barely had anything to pack. In front of me was my tattered notebook, my old, dirty pencil case and my purple, medicine bottle looking water bottle. Once I was done, I walked out slowly and silently in thought. It was the last lesson before lunch anyway so I had plenty of time to lazily stroll out of the room.
"Are you okay Olive? You seem a little down. Listen; don't let Francis get to you. All he's doing is seeking atten-"
"I'm okay sir. Thanks for asking." I interrupted, mainly because I didn't care from advice from a teacher at this time of day. I was just exhausted.
What you just witnessed is a normal occurrence in my class. This is why I don't answer any questions in that class. School is filled with bullies around every corner and I for one have always been so terrified of getting laughed at by everyone if I attempt to answer a question in class or say something that isn't correct. I have no idea about the psychology of it all. I just know that I'm scared.
Anyway, that was a sneak peak into my hate filled history class (that I dread, might I just highlight). However, our new topic is Greek mythology. Something that I love to read about luckily. I've always wanted to meet an ancient Greek god. 'If that were even possible' said my conscience as she laughed loudly at my foolish thought.
"Olive!" Nicole yelled a she jogged towards me, pulling my mind back to reality.
"What's up Nick?" I asked as she finally reached where I was standing.
"Picture this, Francis sitting on a golden throne with rows and rows of people lined up dressed with sweet marinade as they walk up to him waiting to be crunched between his sharp shark like teeth whilst I slowly walk up behind him with a massive rusty, axe that's probably twice my size ready to chop his head off and save everyone, just to be announced the next hero of the city." Nicole smiled happily after she finished narrating to me her wonderfully made up fantasy of how she kills Francis.
"You have one messed up brain, you do know that right?" I laughed at her and after a second, she joined in and we were both soon on the floor soaking in a pool of our own tears of laughter.
This is why I love her. She always makes me laugh when my mind is taking me in whirlpools of over thinking which all in all just brings me down to being sad.
"Hey Live..." (A nickname she called me), "let's go to the field and chill out a bit?" she asked- which sounded more like an order- but I happily agreed and on we went skipping towards the field like a bunch of giggly six year old girls holding hands.
Two minutes later, we approached our lunch spot on the field. It wasn't more than a small square area of dried, thirsty looking, yellow grass with a short wall, which we sat on when we were just talking and chilling but it was a calm place for both of us. A place where we could just relax before it was time to actually go eat. The school worked like that. Since we are such a big school, we have different bells at which different year groups are allowed to go eat and ours-since we were the oldest-rang last. As we sat under the shaded area of our favorite spot, I began to realize just how much I despised the school. Like, sure it's a good school and all but what I really dislike about it is the people.
"Nick?" I said, taking a pause in my sentence for her to assure me that she's listening. "Fancy running away with me? Away from this hell hole." I asked in a joking way-but in my head it sounded more serious.
"Now Live, if this is about them stupid bullies, you know I can always sort you out right? Plus, you don't have to hang out with anyone you don't want to hang out with. You don't have to do anything when it comes to social life hun." She lectured in a way that sounded more or less like a motivational speech.
"Yeah girl I know. Believe me, if everyone around me was just invisible and the only person I could see was you, I would definitely want to stay in this school." I told her as I gave her a seducing smirk.
"Come on girl. Lets go eat before we do something here that can only result in many detentions." She countered and after her sentence, we walked across the dry, grassy field towards the dining room.
As you can probably already tell, school life for me is incredibly boring. All I do is go to class, eat, talk to Nicole and go back home at the end of the day. There's nothing special about my school life at all. Which is why I want to escape.
[Hey guys! for any readers I have so far. I hope you liked this short part. Just know, theres more! Haven't you noticed how Olive keeps saying she hates the school? Will she move? well moving schools doesn't sound very entertaining I know, but think of this... is it just moving schools?
Anyways, I don't know how often ill update because currently, I'm at a good flow so I'm not sure. thanks for reading this and make sure you turn on your notifications so you get notified whenever I update:) ]
