"You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world... but you do get a say in who hurts you." - The Fault in Our Stars

Within a matter of days, the illness in me had dried up and restored what little health my body could produce. My mom's soup stopped being made and I was back at the school, eating only apples for lunch because I refused to eat whatever meat they were serving, if it even truly was meat.

"See the problem is, we've only got 10 of the questions answered! How the hell are we supposed to finish this project now if we've only got 10 of the questions answered!" Autumn hissed and Derek and I shot grins at each other across the table.

By the way Haden's eyes rolled, I could tell this dysfunctional couple was about to fight. Derek and I had been going at a decent pace for our project, while they were too busy fucking any chance they got to do any.

"Excuse me! I was the one who tried to work last night but you practically hop on me and tell me that you're period is coming in two days so we need to do it while we still can. That is your fault, not mine," Haden announces, tossing his milk carton into the the trash can behind us.

Autumn's face blushes a fierce red before she turns around and makes sure only our table heard.

"Whatever. I'm not giving you back any of your hoodies," she huffed, blowing a string of hair out of her face while Haden only smiled deviously.

"That's fine, they look better on you anyways," he winked while Derek gagged.

"Please stop, stop now. I can't take any of this much longer," Derek begged, pounding his fist on the table for emphasis while I giggled.

He was much too late, though. Haden already had Autumn hoisted into his lap and they were in the middle of a make out session.

"How can you go from fighting to making out in a matter of seconds," I whisper, causing Derek's mouth to turn up in the corners and Haden pause momentarily.

"Because I'm irresistible ," Haden winks, pulling a blushing Autumn back to him and continuing where they left off.

It took everything in my power to keep down the apple I just ate while Derek and I rose to our feet in unison, eager to get away from those two.

Our feet thumped softly down the empty hallway, just the two of us still in silence as we walked.

I thought about Haden, and how so far, he'd kept my secret. The poor guy just wanted to grab some Pringles and ended up finding out more than he bargained for.

He was a good and loyal friend, though. I just only hoped this didn't end up slipping out.

"We're about half way through our project, right?" he questioned, suddenly breaking the comfortable silence between the two of us.

I simply nod my head, my thoughts still elsewhere.

"Maybe we can hang out today after practice, and get more of the questions done."

"That sounds good," I reply, swinging my backpack into a more comfortable position and glancing up at him, only to see that he's blushing for some unknown reason.

"You should come to our game this Friday," he says finally, it comes out more like a demand than a request and I think he realizes this when he grows even more red.

"I would, but you know that's not my type of scene. I hate all that unnecessary shit that happens there," I confessed, letting my gaze fall to the steps in front of us.

"Promise me you'll at least come to one of our games. You'll like it, I promise. Plus you'll get to see my muscles more clearly," I scoff and look up to see him smirking down at me.
