"I love you very much, probably more than anyone could ever love a person." - 50 first dates
I stand in the bathroom, blowing the strands of brown hair out of my face while I try to control my breathing.
Inhale, exhale.
The pain had gotten so unbearable, I was forced to climb down to the on ship bathroom and pray to God it passed. It was one of those numbing pains where all you could do was rock back and forth and hope someone delivered you from this evil, or speared you in the head. I couldn't be the reason we had to dock again, and I most certainly wasn't going to let them know what was going on with me.
"Here," Haden mumbles, opening the bathroom door and handing me the bottle of pills I have that are suppose to suppress the pelvic pains I have.
The damn prescriptions seemed to get weaker as my sickness got stronger. These pills were no match for the illness that was rapidly growing inside of me.
"It's bad, isn't it?" Haden asks, his chocolate eyes staring into mine.
His hands fisted the material of own shirt and his mouth scrunched up into a frown. He knew the answer to his own question. I think a part of everyone knew, they just didn't want to accept the truth. Hell, even my mom knew I was dying. But she tried to throw herself into her arts and crafts so she could ignore it, and scrap book a little bit longer.
"There has to be something you could try. I know one of my cousins did an experimental drug program in Mexico, maybe you could try that."
My hair falls like waves when I shake my head and smile sadly at him. So much hope only destined to be crush coming from this boy, this poor boy, who didn't ask to be a part of this.
He sighs, leaning back against the sink. I see the tears staring to swirl in his eyes again and I step forward, shaking my head.
"Don't cry, too many tears have been wasted because of this already. It's alright, I'm fine. I've accepted it, as you're going to help them accept it when I'm gone."
He inhales sharply at that, shaking his head rapidly. Those eyes and ears of his refuse to accept the truth that's coming from my mouth and I almost say something else but a cough interrupts me from doing so.
Turning around, I see a pair of green eyes staring back at me. The eyes dart between the two of us, undoubtedly seeing us in a very compromising position.
"My- my allergies flared up," I see Haden's hands wrap tightly around the bottle of pills, blocking them from Derek's line of sight and I mentally thank Haden.
I didn't deserve him, I truly didn't.
"Right," Derek drawls out, swallowing a lump in his throat," Ashton's got the food ready up stairs so we can all go on out there."
He turns and leaves quickly and Haden and I both exchange looks. I hope to God Derek keeps his mouth shut and doesn't tell Autumn about whatever he thinks he saw, and I pray he didn't hear anything Haden and I were discussing.
The three of us eat our food in silence while Autumn tells a farfetched tale about the time she stole our Principals garden gnome. Her brother, Ashton, excused himself long ago to go back to steering the ship, rolling his eyes at his sister as he went away.
"I'm going to go out front to look at the view," Derek grumbles, standing up quickly and maneuvering around us.
I sigh while Autumn's smile falters and she looks confused but Haden sends me a quick wink.
"Baby, let's check out the bed in our room. It looked really fucking comfortable." Autumn laughs childishly before pulling Haden away and he shoots me a thumbs up.
