Chapter 2

(Paisley's POV)

"I'll be right back babe." I smiled before kissing the top of Josh's head and grabbing my duffel bag that Emily had dropped off this morning. We had all spent yesterday with Josh after we awoke from our nap but only I had slept over in the hospital with him. Looking back I waved goodbye before slipping from the main room into the joined bathroom.

Once inside I dropped the bag on the counter and unzipped it. Most of the clothes were mine but some were Emily's that she had bought and either hadn't fit into or just didn't want. Shaking my head I changed from my pajamas into a pair of white shorts, a black tank top, and my black wedge converse. I let my hair fall in waves as I put on my 'engagement' ring, my camera necklace, and my key ring.

Smiling I fluffed my hair a little before stuffing my pajamas in the bag and zipping it up. I loved having long sleeves since I could slip them over my hands. A soft ding pulled me from my thoughts. Fishing around my bag I found my phone, the screen lit up with an incoming message.

From: Jess

Everyone is fed and sent off to doggy training school!

Smiling I texted back a quick thank you before shoving the phone in my back pocket and hooking the bag's strap over my shoulder. As I pulled open the door I was surprised to see Brooke leaning over Josh's body, just watching him.

"What the actual fuck are you doing?" I asked loudly making Brooke jump and move away from Josh. "Like seriously I know how to take care of him...get out." I dropped the bag on a table and crossed my arms as I glared at her.

"Well I'm his full time nurse I need to check his vitals." She smirked at me as she too crossed her arms against her chest before turning and looking at the heart monitor. Shaking my head I walked up to her and grabbed the back of her shirt.

"Time to go." I muttered before pulling her from the room and down to the nurse's station. "Hi." I said sweetly, my hand still fisted in the back of Brooke's shirt. "Is there anyway that I can request a new nurse for my fiance?" I yet again put emphasis on the word as I let go of her shirt and placed my hand with the ring on the counter. "This nurse's assistant keeps coming into his room when not needed and just standing over him." The woman behind the counter furrowed her eyebrows at Brooke before grabbing a phone.

"Of course, sweetie. I'll take care of Brooke go be with your fiance." Smiling I thanked her before walking back to the room. Behind me I heard the lady mutter something I couldn't help but be concerned about. "This is the second time Brooke. You'll be lucky if they don't put you with the morgue staff." Shaking my head I walked in the room, locking the door behind me. Once I reached Josh I realized why he hadn't protested Brooke's weird stalking. He was asleep in the bed, snoring softly. Laughing I leaned over and cupped his face, kissing his lips softly before letting go and sitting down in the chair I had dragged over the day before.

Groaning I stretched my legs out before setting them up on the bed's railing. The soft beeping behind me was calming, a faithful reminder that Josh was alive and recovering. Once comfortable I pulled out my phone and scrolled through Facebook. A couple invites to games, a friend request or too, and some adorable puppy videos were all I found. Shrugging I pulled up Twitter and clicked on the compose tweet button.

"Hey beautiful." Jumping I looked to Josh who was staring at me. I laughed as I covered my heart with my hand. "Sorry didn't mean to make you jump." He smiled softly showing off the wires in his mouth.

"It's alright baby." I responded as my hand left my still fast beating heart. Gently he reached his I.V. arm over my shoulder and pulled me closer, my chin resting on the rail as he pressed a kiss to my head.

"Did you talk to my parents?" He asked, his lips still against my forehead.

"Yeah they're gonna make sure the house is clean while you stay here." As he nodded in understanding I felt him sigh against his head. The Washington family wasn't exactly perfect yet. Josh and his father still fought whenever they got near each other, Mrs. Washington barely got out of bed from depression and when she did it was usually only to go to the graveyard. In all reality Josh hadn't seen his parents since they left us in the hospital. I had only called them to ask for the favor which Mrs. Washington only agreed to so she could see the rooms. It was still their house but they were living elsewhere at the moment.

Gently I ran my hand through Josh's thick hair before leaning up and kissing his cheek. "I'm gonna run home and make some food for us okay?" Josh nodded as he let go. I quickly stole a quick kiss before grabbing my keys and leaving. Josh couldn't actually eat solid foods but I could always make him a smoothie.

The drive home was quick and once inside I was met by silence. No scurrying of puppies, no yells about what was destroyed...just silence. Shaking my head I walked inside and closed the door behind me, shoving my keys in my pocket as I walked to the kitchen; turning on lights as I traveled through the house. While this was a wonderful house to live in..it wasn't ours. It was Josh's parents. Making a slight detour I grabbed my laptop from the living room before going to the kitchen. I didn't bother making something big, just a quick mixed fruit bowl for me and a berry smoothie for Josh. Don't call it girly he says it tastes amazing.

After cleaning up I grabbed both the meals and my laptop before leaving the house. Since that Brooke girl wouldn't be coming back I think it's time Josh and I do something for ourselves. While I loved this house I know Josh doesn't. Seeing the girl's rooms breaks his heart and makes him cry at least once a day. He needs a new home and I don't doubt the Washington's want their home back.

Looking at my laptop I nodded before starting the car, my plan formulating in my head as I backed out of the driveway and started the drive to the hospital. Josh would be happy no matter how much time and money it takes.
