Hermione's POV
A tapping on the window awoke me from my sleep. Since the war I had been an extremely light sleeper. "harry, Ron, ginny" I groaned "leave me alone. I want to sleep". Since the battle of hogwarts, I had been staying at the burrow with my best friends, harry Potter, Ron Weasley and ginny Weasley. No one replied but the tapping continued. "whoever that is, shut up" I groaned. The tapping still didn't stop. "George, if that is you, I will make you very sorry" I said.
After five more minutes, I could stand the tapping no longer. Wearily, I sat up and opened my eyes. To my surprise, an unfamiliar owl was pecking at my window. It was a dark brown colour with wide Hazel eyes. I stretched and walked over to the window, letting it in. The bird swooped gracefully through the now open window and landed on the bed.
I smiled at it and pulled the letter from its beak. I liked getting mail for some reason. I recognised the heavy yellow parchment from the moment my fingers touched it. I recognised the lime green ink from the moment my eyes saw it. I recognised the purple wax seal the moment my hand brushed against it. I didn't need to open the letter to know what it was. I was going back to Hogwarts!
Despite knowing, I opened it carefully anyway. I slid the sheets of parchment out and carefully unfolded the first one.

I gasped when i saw the list of books. I needed 8 more books this year. I was really happy, I love books.
To my supprise, there was a third sheet of parchment in the envelope and attached to it, was a badge. I read the letter several times, unable to believe it.
Dear hermione,
You are a student that I have been impressed with since day 1 and I have wanted to be the one to inform you of this since that day. It is my great pleasure to inform you that you are to be Head girl for this year. After last year, I realised just how proud of you I was - and I've never said that about a student before. I know that you will be a simply wonderful headgirl and I look forward to seeing you on September 1st. Please meet me in the heads Compartment.
Best wishes
Minerva mcgonagall
It was only when I had read mcgonagall's letter about ten times that the truth began to sink in and I picked up the badge. It was red, with a elegant gold lion, looking like the Gryffindor symbol on the house crest. Above it, in fancy gold lettering, we're the word's 'head girl'.
I quickly got dressed into some short denim shorts and a Gryffindor t-shirt (a gift from ginny). I clipped my purple amethyst necklace around my neck. The necklace was a gift from my parents. My parents lived in Australia. During the war, I had changed their memories, to keep them safe but as soon as Voldemort had been defeated, ministry people had travelled to Australia to fix their memories. They had decided to stay in Australia but they had sent me my necklace after somehow finding out everything that had happened in the war, courtesy of harry and Ron. My pineapple earrings were another gift from ginny. I slid my sandles onto my feet and grabbed my satchel before pinning my new badge to my chest and racing downstairs. With so many people at the burrow, it was easier to just wear shoes and not worry about slippers.
When I got down, everyone turned to look in my direction. "hey 'mione" said harry "what are you doing up, it's only seven o'clock". I laughed.
"and what's that" asked ginny pointing to my shinny new badge. "I've just got my hogwarts letter" I said, pausing "and I'm head girl".
"congratulations 'ermine" said Ron, through a mouthful of bacon.
"yes, well done, eet ees a fabulous acheevement" commented fleur. Molly, Arthur, George, Bill, Charlie, percy and Harry all said something that I didn't catch due to ginny' s excited squealed. "well done 'mione" she said excitedly, bouncing up and down.
"Well then, hermione dear" said Mrs Weasley fondly "eat your breakfast then we'll all go to Diagon alley". I sat down between ginny and fleur and grabbed a slice of toast. As I sat down, fleur' s newborn daughter Victorie stretched out her tiny hand, reaching for my badge. The baby cooed softly when she felt soft metal beneath her fingers. "no, Victorie" scolded Bill softly but obviously, the baby girl didn't understand. I unclipped my badge and lay it on the table, out of Victorie's reach.
