A.N. I would just like to remind everyone that this is fictional and how I portray some of the characters is in no way a reflection of their real-world counterparts.

      Chris walks down to 54 Below hoping his date wasn't done with her set quick yet. "Are you sure this won't be awkward.  I mean I don't want to ruin our friendship." CJ rubs her head against Chris's hoping to calm the down.

      "Hey guys." Mandy greets them, her African Rock Python dæmon, Elijah, curled around her shoulders.

      "Hey Mandy, how was the show tonight?"

      "Good, how about yours?

      "Really good, although I think Lin just signed up to up foster a kid ."

      "How?" Mandy questions, followed by a slight shiver.

      "Why don't we talk about this once we get somewhere warmer?"

      "Do you have anywhere in mind?"

      "There's a fondue place a couple blocks down that has good dessert and wine."

      "That sounds nice."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Wait so her foster parents just let her wander the streets?" Mandy questions waving her fondue fork around while she talked.
      "Yep."
      "That's crazy, but let's talk about you. It's seems like forever since we've had a long conversation, how's life been?"
      "Great, Sarah's just beginning to get out of her shell around others and it's awesome."
      "I'm not keeping you from her right now, am I?"
      "No, no not at all. I was actually going to ask if after this you wanted to wanted to come to my place. But not in a creepy way, it's just closer to here and it's late and I'll stay on the couch and-"
      "Chris, I'd love to come over."
      He smiles, "Awesome, and I have a heated blanket that I think Elijah would like."
      "That'd be lovely." The dæmon in question responds.
      "Great. I'm really happy how this has been-" Chris is cut off by his ringtone. He looks down and sees his ex-wife's picture. "I'm so sorry, but I have to talk this."
      Mandy gestures as if to say it's fine.
      "Hey Veronica, what's wrong?... Well can you put her on?... Thank you.... Hey Sarah bear," Mandy notices Chris's voice softer and happier too. "What's going on baby?... Did you tell him that you needed your quiet time?... Did you talk to Mommy when he wouldn't let you? ... Would you like me to get you?... Ok, baby. Give the phone back to Mommy and pack your bag... She's coming back with me tonight," Chris's voice became colder and less welcoming, "You know I don't like him spending time with Sarah... She can't help it Veronica ... Well I don't see what the issue is then. You can do whatever you want and not worry about her... We'll talk about this later ok?... I'll see you in 15 minutes to get her... Bye." Chris hangs up the phone and sighs.
      "What's going on?"
      "Sarah's having problems at her mom's, so I'm going to get her. I'm so sorry."
      Mandy squeezes Chris's hand, "It's ok. Although can I ask if coming back to your place is still on the table?"
      "Of course, um, do you want me to order your a cab there or do you want to come with me to pick her up?" Chris asks, laying down enough money to pay for the fondue, drinks, and still leave a generous tip.
