Chapter one;

My feet hit the ground in loud rhythmic thumps as my legs carry me closer and closer to my house. My heart beats in my ear as I round another corner. There is nothing like that feeling of determination that runs through your body as your lungs scream in agony and your heart pounds in your chest.

The thought of finally being able to rest only pushed my determination to finish the run further. The best part of running, to me, was the end when you could lie on your back and curse yourself for putting that strain on your body yet again.

Six miles later, I finally arrived at my doorstep. My whole body was aching and screaming for relief. I pushed the door open and stepped inside. My muscles were immediately relieved by the brisk cool air taking hold to my body.

"Hello," I shouted half-heatedly. I hate being alone in my house. I always felt like I stepped straight into a horrible scary movie and a killer was waiting and watching for the perfect opportunity to kill me. The only sound I heard was the click signaling the air conditioner was starting up again. I shuddered at how quiet it was and bounded up the steps two at a time to reach the door that opened the room I'd spent the majority of my time in growing up. You see, part of being in a fucked up family meant that you had an excuse to spend evenings away from them and by yourself in your room. I liked it that way.

Opening the door and relaxing instantaneously, the air smelt sweet and clean making me feel at home. I didn't even have to have my eyes open to navigate throughout my room.

Not hesitating to strip out of the sweat-drenched clothes I was wearing, I jump in to the shower.The water flows down my body, making my aching muscles relax quickly. I quickly wash and dry myself before stepping out into the cool air, sending a new wave of chills up my spine.

Catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I couldn't fathom how much I changed so much over the summer of my junior year. Now that it was my first day back as a senior, I was completely different. I had lost a lot of weight after intense work outs and a tight diet, leaving me now looking completely different.

My pale blue eyes stood out against my tan skin, my hair which was dirty blonde, was already drying in its naturally curly state. I had my father's infamous nose that always made me feel self-conscious. Along with the normal small breakouts I get occasionally from stress, I have one small freckle just above my eyebrow.

Glancing at the clock and realizing its 6:30, I bring myself out of my thoughts. Opening my closet I take a look around to examine what I have to work with. Ivory, who is my best friend seemed to have left me a few options already hanging up. She has the most amazing sense of style, but dresses very different than I do. I am more of the baggy t-shirt type, while her motto consists of "If it's not tight it doesn't fit." Even though I don't want to dress that way, she insisted that for at least the first week she gets to dress me. Glaring at the shorts and tight tank top she had picked out I was already starting to regret agreeing to let her do this. Thankfully, she had cut me some slack by allowing me to wear my favorite pair of converse.

Deciding to skip the whole make-up process all together I braid my curly hair quickly and skip downstairs to the kitchen. Looking around for any signs that my family is home I quickly notice that I am still left to fend for myself. "

Way to be supportive of your kids first day back as a senior" I whisper to myself, before grabbing a banana off of the counter and making my way out to my car.
