I wiped my eyes with my sleeve and stood up. I couldn't just cry while some monsters took my sister. I need to find her.
"S- so what do we now?" I sniffled brushing my thin blonde hair out of my face.
"I guess we start walking." Xander shrugged.
I didn't realize how long we were sitting there. The sun was slowly setting and it would be dark in a few hours.
"So, um... what were those things that attacked us?" A shiver went up my spine. Just talking about those things make me nervous. I've never seen anything like that, it was like something from a nightmare.
"Yeah. Okay. Let me apologize now. I have a lot of explaining to do."
"You think?" I interrupted.
Xander went on, "I knew I shouldn't of kept it from you." I watched Xander bite his thumb nail. I've seen him do it a few times before. Xander always does it when he's really nervous. I felt really impatient, I need answers.
"Oh, right. Those blue things." He said as if he just came back to reality. "Shifters. That's what they're called. They are genetically created mutants. So, basically they can shift into any animal, but they aren't very smart."
I stopped walking because I felt Xander stop.
"I'm like you, Rosie." He said. I just stared at him confused. What did he mean by that? Like me? I looked at his swollen lip. He couldn't heal, I knew that for a fact. His eyes looked bluish up close. I always used to think they were brown.
Then, in less than a second, he was gone. Gone, just like everyone else in my life. I looked around, but I couldn't see him anywhere. I wanted to scream, but I couldn't get enough air. I felt like I was suffocating
"I'm right here." He said in a whisper. His voice was coming from right in front of me.
Then he was back in front of me again, as if nothing happened.
"You. You were invisible." I said, still in shock. He smiled. I wanted to punch him so badly for scaring me. Why did he keep it from me for so long? I told him everything, didn't he trust me? I took a deep breathe to try and cool myself down.
"So, you have a super power. Any other life changing things you want to tell me? Can you fly, too?" I said with more than a slight bit of sarcasm.
"And there are other kids like us." He continued ignoring my statement. "Its practically a town of kids with powers, and that's where we're going. I think they might have Lily."
"But Lily doesn't-" I started, but paused. I saw a boy walking stealthily toward us. I didn't notice him before. He was devastatingly gorgeous, dressed all in back. He kept walking closer, directly towards us. "What a surprise to see you here. How did you find us?" Xander asked in a conversational tone to the boy, though his face had gone hard and his body was completely still.
"It wasn't difficult." Drake sounded bored.
"What do you want, Drake?" Xander asked. Now the boy was only a few feet away from us.
"You dead." Drake answered softly. "But what I want doesn't matter this time." He pointed his finger at me and I froze. "I'm here for her."
"Over my dead body." Xander smiled, as if this was a friendly conversation on the street, but I could feel his muscles coiling under his skin.
"I was hoping you'd say that." Drake said raising his hands up from his sides, pointing them at Xander. I held my breathe, still hoping that I'd wake up any second.
