It's funny how that's probably how everything started. How he woke up the next morning, huge headache, in pain, and coughing up a tiny petal that would soon become an even bigger problem. It's especially sad that Tom had literally cut Tord deep with a broken shard of sharp glass, ending up with the Norwegian having to tightly wrap a bandage around his hand. How Tom never noticed the bandage too much was insane to think about, especially with him staring wide eyed and shocked at the forming scar in Tord's palm. The skin where Tom had made the gash was now a light shade compared to the tan shin surrounding the newly developing scar, but there is still a few specs of deep pink that showed how fresh the cut actually is.
It's tempting to just stare into the face of the gash all night and never look away, but then Tom realizes that it's not just him and the gash. There's also Tord. And he's waiting for a reply.
Reluctantly, Tom cranes his neck to stare into the eyes of the Norwegian, who in turn is looking right back at him with an expression that reads 'are you done yet?'
It's weird now. Tom is staring and Tord is just staring right back, the quiet of the air surrounding them.
Is this where Tom realizes the truth behind the disease?
The "I hate you." that probably made everything the way it is.
Matt, the sweet ginger kid who was only trying to help, had put Tom in the position of him knowing the truth behind something he wanted to avoid. How the ginger mentioned the love-hate relationship that could stir in between the two enemies, how he seemed so sure that Tom felt nothing but love in his heart for Tord. Matt had said that his flower disease comes from heartbreak, from feeling unloved, from the right amount of blood pressure against the lungs.
Tom isn't in love.
But those words hurt.
"I hate you."
Well, Tom thought in distain, I hate you too. In fact, I hate you so much that I don't ever want to see you again. I want you out of the house.
Tom thought of these things while looking right into the face of the devil himself.
No matter how he executes his plan, his main point of action will be to kick Tord out of the house. Whether it's with him falling in love with Tom or hating his guts so much that he can't take it anymore. He will get rid of him.
Looking away from his face, he turns to the steering wheel of the car and starts it up, forgetting completely about his drink and the food they got from McDonalds. Now, it's time to head home and face the consequences of his past.
There was never a fight or any word the whole car ride and walk into the house. Tord stayed quiet and walked carefully to his room, while Tom quietly put their McDonalds take out into the fridge. No one was probably even awake right now and it's probably best they keep it that way, so the point was made to be as quiet as possible.
It wasn't until Tom made it safely in his bedroom that he realized how fucked he really was at this point.
"In love" is not a feeling he has for Tord.
But, at this point, maybe saying "hate" was a strong word to use as well.
The feelings and emotions that stirred from remembering that phrase: "I hate you." It's insane to think that it could affect Tom so much to the point where it triggered this stupid flower disease. The emotions that stir up in him upon remembering the tone Tord used and the context behind it.
