In Nature

*IN NATURE*

If in nature yourself you immerse,

Surely you shall a poem find;

A wordless poem God designed,

A poem sans need of strike of lyre

A song sans heed of rhyme, nor verse,

An ode e'en sans music kindling fire.

In waves, mid the pulse of the seas

You hear the chorus of the pearls,

The sweet refrain o'er verdure whirls

Towards the kind idyll of the sun;

Crooning softly upon the trees

Where are cobwebs dewy always spun.

In their tenors, all soaring high

Ethereal forces all combine

To lunge across the silver line

Of clouds chanting psalms of one accord;

Singing joyous while passing by,

The sweet breeze shall dance before the Lord.

The seas the rain is lavishing

Wash afresh the once sun-baked hills

And cries a march by dest'ny's will;

Though by its lightning the Earth is scourged

--Though the silence 'tis ravishing--

Life is but by its music only forged.

And when the lonesome night bereft

Spangles the heaven with stars

'Tis a tune from fresh sad scars

Of hearts that breathe the forbidding sigh

And to the melody left--

A symph'ny in heartache's mournful cry.

Nature's fantastic scheme of rhyme

Surely'd satisfy any thirst

Of a soul to hatred accursed

For it infinite and eternal is,

For this song that resounds through time

Is God's poem--ever will be His.
