(Y/n) hit the rocks against each other, igniting a spark in which then caused the cloth to burn. Holding the torch with her left hand, she stared at the flames intently. The fire illuminated the area around her, allowing her to see her surroundings two meters from her.

It had already been a couple of hours into the night and she was positive that all the small titans in the forest had fallen asleep due to the lack in sunlight.

After venturing the forest for what felt like hours, there was no sign of life. There was not a single squirrel or even an insect. 'Strange', she wondered. She came across multiple obstacles such as rivers, cliffs, fallen trees and dead ends, each of them taking more and more of her energy to overcome.

She clutched her lower abdomen as her stomach let out an audible growl. She was beyond tired and was close to dying of starvation. Nevertheless, she refused to give up.

The path in front of her became blurrier by the second. (Y/n) glanced at the now dimly lit fire; it looked like it would disappear any second. Suddenly her legs gave out, falling; she found herself sliding on her back down a steep, muddy slope. Tree branches everywhere scratched her face and body as she crashed into them. The handmade torch had fallen from her hand when she fell so now she felt as if she was sliding down a very dark tunnel.

She landed the ground with a soft thud. Her back was now sore and the water surrounding her made her newly obtained cuts sting. The girl had landed into a small river; the water would have reached her kneecaps if she were standing. The moonlight reflected onto the running water. The area appeared to be calm, just a small clearing with a stream.

The water it itself was cold and due to the silence of the night she could hear her own heart beat faster as her muscles start to shiver. Shakily standing up, she tried her best to make out her surrounding; her eyesight was not the best with or without sunlight.

She felt her way into a small hole in a fallen trunk and sat down, hissing as she felt her whole body scream. Her clothes were now soaked and her lips had turned blue. Pulling her legs against her chest, the young girl tried warming herself. Resting her head back onto the wood, she slowly closed he eyes, trying desperately to calm her stomach.

...

Her short nap led to the sun rising, it was the beginning of dawn. Her eyes shot open as she felt a small tug on her hair. Could it be a titan? She was still in the tree and a titan could not be that small. Maybe it was another human.

Her whole body tensed as an unfamiliar noise came from behind her. Her hair was tugged again causing her to fall backwards so now she was lying on her back. She came face to face with something she had not expected to find in the forest, a horse.

(Y/n) scurried to her feet as the creature let go of her hair. She was still in disbelief, in her country it would be very rare for one to come across a horse, as they were limited. Stretching a hand out, she carefully placed it onto the horse, making contact. A small smile made its way to her lips as the horse happily responded to her. By then she had realized that the horse had reigns attached to it.

Pulling the horse out of the tree she turned it around, her hand instantly flew up to her mouth covering a gasp. There on the back of the horse was a saddle but what she did not expect to see was the body that was hanging from it. She was not covered in blood but her head was twisted into an uncomfortable position and her eyes were wide open showing nothing but horror.

Carefully, (y/n) pulled the woman off the saddle and placed her onto the ground, her skin was pale and she was freezing. She runs her hand down the deceased's face, closing the eyes. She now appeared to be sleeping.

(y/n) crouched down and covered the woman's face with a small cloth that she had found after rummaging the various bags that hung off the saddle. Now that the face was covered, she began to inspect the body. She was wearing a white shirt with an orange jacket over it; on the pocket above her heart was a blue and white symbol.

'Must be a soldier'(y/n) said to herself, but unfortunately no noise came out from her mouth.

On either side of her hips were what appear to be metal contractions. She removed the clothing from the body and switched it with hers. She also put the gear on herself, after carefully analyzing how it was worn. Once the switch was complete she uttered and apology to the body and approached the horse which was now currently munching on the grass near the stream.

Hanging from the saddle was an emerald green cloak with a similar blue white insignia on the back of it. She picked up the cloak and placed it on herself, doing the button. She left the hood off, for now.

Opening one of the bags hanging from the saddle, she retrieved a canteen and bent down to fill it up with water. Before it was even halfway full, she brought it up to her lips and greedily drank from it. Another one of the bags contained bread and apples, which she ate instantly, emptying the bag in less than five minutes; of course, she had given one of the apples to the horse.

By the time she had finished her hunger was almost reduced to nothing. With much difficulty due to the metal contraption on her hips, she had successfully got on the horse. After saying a small goodbye to the grave in which she had buried the body in, she rode out of the clearing and out of the forest.

Not knowing which way to go, the 25-year old continued to head north. Hours passed and thankfully, her ride was uneventful. The sun was now high up in the middle of the sky. She let her eyes wander to her surroundings, there were still titans but they were scattered all around far away from her and none of them took notice of her.

She heard yelling in a distance and she snapped back to the front. Her eyes visibly widened as she saw a group of what appeared to be men on horses approaching her direction from afar.

She quickens her pace and put her hood up. A crash came from behind her and her eyes met with one of the many beasts. Groups of titans varying in size were now chasing her. She tried to get the horse to go faster but it was not working. She looked around and noticed a fog was forming up ahead in the direction of the soldiers. She internally cheered and headed straight into it with the titans trailing behind her.

The fog was so thick she could barely make out anything. It was only a matter of time until she collided with something and that she did. Her horse came to an abrupt stop as a wagon suddenly appeared in front of them; the girl almost fell off her horse because of this.

"Cadet", a voice said, a man emerged from behind the wagon wearing the same uniform as she did. "Get off your horse; we're going to wait until this fog lifts."

(Y/n) nodded silently and bowed her head down. Even though the fog was very thick up until the point you can barely see anything, she was not taking the risk of being not recognised.

As time went by the fog grew thicker and thicker, the soldiers that had approached her had long vanished and she was left alone. That was until she heard a mad scream echoing throughout the fog. It was a human scream, a scream of pure rage.

She got off her horse and ran towards the voice. Reaching a clearing where the fog was lighter, she saw a figure short figure standing on top of bodies and bodies of titans; covered in blood that was slowly evaporating along with the bodies.
